Iommic Pope wrote:I have a mantra, it goes apeshit when you crank the gain, too uncontrollable for tight stuff. I bought it to add a different kind of crunch to my Marshall, but it was just too overbearing, as others have said. Having said that, they do it with a low gain switch now, and that would be useful for a really fat booster, if you used it tubescreamer like, because it does have an awesomely thick tone.
The BAT black forest gets pretty tight, but not like jerrys bogner tight, but I haven't tried it with a comp or eq yet, and I reckon that could yield brutal chugging results.
I have also had unsatisfactory experiences with the rat.
I'm off to suss out the elements as well.
Although I am wondering if there's not a way to turn that little Orange practice amp into a tb preamp pedal....

:excellent:

After wasting a shit load of time on youtube yesterday I think the starting point will be Elements and DLS MkIII. Then I'll proceed to waste hundreds and hundreds of dollars chasing tone dragons.

It's all a blur. I dont even know what you were using when we started. That RAT's been around a long time, is that the only one?

Yeah dude, I'm angsty over the Skyhammer preamp now. Can I justify that much money down on a dirt box? No, but I'll convince myself I can. Goodbye tax return of the future end of financial year. Hello divorce papers.

As someone who has one of those preamps, if you can find one used for under 500$ fucking snag it. It is absolutely amazing. The low gain tone has just the perfect amount of grit even at max settings, and with the boost engaged the hi-gain tones are unreal, it truly sounds like a tube amps preamp and thats because it is! I will say I would never pay 700$ for one, even 500$ is a stretch but i scored mine for a song and love it to death.

Ah dude, don't encourage me!
That is a steal though, how'd you come across yours?
I'm prepared to pay full price, just because I don't foresee one popping up second hand i anytime soon, although if they have another end of year sale this year, I'm totally jumping one.
Do you have any demos of yours floating around, I'd be dead keen to hear it on your monster rig?

I found mine on Ebay, luckily it was local too so I met up with the dude. I got it for $400 w/ free shipping but when I met up with him he said he found out that morning that the power switch was broken. So he refunded me 30$ for the shipping that he didn't have to do, and then 50$ for the broken switch so I got it for $320. Score. Then I hit up Ben and he sent me a new power switch for free. I soldered it in about a week ago and its awesome.
Yeah they don't pop up too often from what I've seen but i don't stray far from this forum much anymore. I'm sure Ben will have another sale at the end of this year but you can always keep your eyes out and I will as well.
No demo's yet, I'm trading for a new recording interface tonight but I won't get a chance to do any recordings for probably a few weeks. The next three weekends are booked with shows and with a 5months pregnant wifey I don't get much time to play at home right now.

New Elements finish is very snazzy. I'm actually leaning toward the new finish over the crop circle/binary finish. BEHOLD!

The only three pedals that can contend with the dist channel of a VHT Pittbull are The Elements, Rockett Afterburner and v3 OCD. Toneczar Openhaus is really good, but less bassy than the previous three. I also appreciate the HM-2, BAT Pharaoh and old time Rats (I've got an old whiteface and a Fuzzrocious Rat Tail).
You're not a musician, you're a low frequencies generator!

Wow dude, that is steal of the century! Awesome, cheers dude!
Yeah I don't play a lot these days, hoping to rectify that with a project to concentrate on so I don't just become the smaug of guitar crap. It's hard though with work all over the shop, kids under two and study. Ill get there though. I am determined!
vidret wrote:even though i love the pharaoh if i could only bring one pedal i'd actually bring the black forest, i think - but it's not really distortion.

It's overdrive, fuzz and can get tight and chuggy and big sounding, cleans up EXTREMELY well and looks great. I can't say it does that medium/low gain very well though, it's like a threshhold where you go over it it goes nuts, in my experience.
Played really well with the amps at the practice space, did sabbath to grindcore stuff with it.

Like I said, go for the elements.

I gotta say, the BF is very sassifying. It's probably the one thing that's keeping me reasonable in the face of my varellen gas. It just looks at me and says "c'mon man, we're still cool, right? What the fuck else do you need you compulsive bastard"
Then I stomp on it and all is right with the world.

I doesn't have tubes though... :grumpy:
