my favourite post rock band is sleepmakeswaves another bunch of aussies, who also happen to be some of the nicest people ever, make rocking music and have great taste in gear
other bands: solkyri (also aussies), kyu (kind of post rocky), asiwyfa are cool too
were you at the Hi-Fi 65dos gig? I was there right at the front haha. Freaking amazing experience. +1 on sleepmakeswaves, I wasn't sold on their albums but they are an incredible live band, saw them unintentionally 3 times cos they were supporting Tortoise, 65daysofstatic and Bosnian Rainbows. Really nice guys.
Fuck. I missed 65daysofstatic on their latest rounds! I was kind of broke and they were low on a list of amazing shows coming up so I skipped them despite quite a few of my mates going. Booooooo no like bad news.

Nah man, I was/am underage! But I saw them at peats ridge festival, met them at a signing tent after the set and they we super super friendly (also spoke to Alex from sleepmakeswaves for about 20 minutes before 65dos' set and he was so nice too) 65dos were pissed off that I wasn't legally allowed into their show so they wrote down my name and said I could have a door spot/guest pass as they might not check ID. Unfortunately I had another gig on the night but I'm sure it was killer
I saw sleepmakeswaves at black wire records in Annandale at a cool little gig they curated I don't know if you've been there but it's a tiny space, I was right up the front and they were all hanging out in the crowd when the others bands were on, very cool venue

Oh sweet! Yeah they always check ID at the Hi-Fi, no getting past that. I don't know how the hell Joe can balance a tele on his chin by the headstock but god damn that was cool. Black wire is a great shop, never seen any bands there though. The sleepmakeswaves guys were at that This Will Destroy You/TTol gig too.
Pretty incredible group of bands to work through on here. I started listening.....and then pretty much just listened to Red Sparowes the entire fucking day I can't believe how good these guys are and that I hadn't listened to them before. Thanks so much for the recommendation guys.

Ah I wish I could have gone to twdy, would have been a cracker gig!
I reckon attrabillions could fit a black wire lineup sometimes, try and get a gig there when you start playing out If not, we should have a Sydney ILF meet up there one day when a cool band is playing

Yeah I think they did at one stage They have really cool custom guitars from a builder out of Melbourne called 'twenty twelve guitars' cool looking stuff, effects wise they are pretty standard/minimal

They are really good live, if you get the chance totally go, but yeah they do mostly stay within the UK afaik. Hadn't heard of the film until now, the preview on their site makes it look awesome though!
Mogwai, as mentioned...Especially The Hawk Is Howling. Their best work IMO. The new Boris album, Praparat, is incredible. Gregor Samsa is a bit more orchestral, but equally as good. The self-titled Macha album. Debatably post-rock, but they're kind of in that area
