I like the new Bass Big Muff on guitar a hell of a lot (way more than a normal muff), but hate it on bass. :idk:

From what i have tried you might find that the sanford and sonny bluebeard is probably something very close to what you are lookikng for. It is essentially a big muff but it has more gain and holds bass better.

I just got a BBM and IMO it is low gain for a Bigmuff, no where near a Sovtek. I have rehearsal tonight and a gig tomorrow so I'm going to put it through it's paces. Right now I'm using a GGG tuned BMP for my muff-fuzz thang.

My main fuzz is a Katana Sound Supper Bassfuzz, by it's self it is a bit much in the sizzle area but with a band it is just GODLY in the way it sits and add grit and grind, but on the other hand it is a $265 pedal.

i tried the standard reissue EHX Big Muff Pi, and holy sucktone! sold it fast and wondered where was the famous big muff bass tone i'd always heard about.

haven't yet tried the current black Russian version. seen a lot of bassists use it. some had great fuzz tone. some had crap.

i gave the micro series Little Big Muff a try and this was more like it. this muff delivers a really huge, scooped fuzz with monstrous lows. it almost has too much gain; i set sustain on about 8 o'clock. i love this one for delivering giant, slow doom riffs.

i agree that the Bass Big Muff doesn't sound a whole lot like the old Sovtek green one, but i still enjoy the fuzz thoroughly. i can get nearly the same doom fuzz texture that i like with the Little Big Muff except without the huge sub bass harmonics. still plenty of low end though. and since ymmv, the added toggle switch allows additional bass boost and wet/dry blend options. folks will swear by this or that muff version, but i think this one produces the biggest variety of usable bass tones. the gain can go from mild overdrive sounds to big blossomed fuzz. one cool note - even with max sustain, the pedal can stay quiet when muting strings or during pauses. no way the other muffs can be about that so easily.

While I agree with you the BBM isn't growing on me yet, I like the over all sound better then the black Russian [but then I never really liked it] but to me any pedal that says "bass" on it and has a "bass-boost" should have WAY more bass then any previous version of the BMP bar none, my old green sovek has more lows then the BBM [with bass-boost on] even with the tone set to 12 O'clock. Then again I never have been happy with the Sovtek in a band situation do to the massive mid-scoop.

Also the "blend" for me isn't that helpful because you have no way to actually balance your fuzz/bass mix and not have the volume change a bit [this is a big issue with me on any pedal] particularly when using a active bass; it's either too loud or you don't hear the fuzz very well. I know that experiences very with any application but from all the great reviews I was expecting more. Also TO ME it sounds a little cheap, it sounds like what I picture a $76.97 pedal sounding like, where as I paid $69 for my Sovtek back in the day and it does not "sound" TO ME like a $69 pedal.

At this point I don't know if I will keep it or not, I'm going to pull out my barge blender and see if I can get similar sounds with my other two muffs that I like about the BBM.....

muff-off! sounds ideal. :joy: more fuzz for all! maybe i can find time to iron out a recording setup...

yeah, mudfuzz, i find the normal toggle setting on the BBM to be the most useful for me. the bass boost is cool, but seems to lose a lot of definition for my usual fuzz tastes in a live setting. i really agree about the blend option. it would be much more functional to have a separate blend knob to help the heavy pedal board with unity gain!

i reckon i was most impressed with the fuzz texture and the concurrent managability of feedback/noise. before the BBM, i had to limit my muff usage during songs with fast breaks or tricky pauses so i wasn't feedbacking over them.

i had an old Sovtek green BM a long time back, but sold it due to it's resale value at the time (low on fuzz funds all round ). i used to be more picky about the lack of a standard boss-style power jack... maybe i'll pick one up again if i'm feelin sporty... :)
