Intonation on a Guitar

Post by Grrface »

Ok, all of my strings on this guitar are sharp, all about the same amount. I know I'm missing something stupid simple, which should I adjust? I went from 9s to 10s.

Does your bridge have adjustable saddles?

Did you try adjusting them?

Yup. Just to double check, sharp at the 12th fret means to adjust saddles towards the bridge, right?

Does this guitar have a trem? If they are all sharp the asme, open the back and tighten the strings equally so that the bridge is in the same spot it was in with the other strings. If not, disregard.

Yeah, no trem, just took a while to get it all intonated. It's not perfect, but it'll do for now.

Thanks for the advice, dudes.

:thumb: It usually takes a short time for the strings to settle in.

Yeah, I had no experience on a guitar, only bass. Guitars are a good deal more finicky, I'm thinking.

yes...there's a shorter amount of saddle travel on a guitar, so it's harder to dial in precisely. i had to replace the Tuna on my Epiphone SG because there wasn't enough space to intonate the low E.
