Pedalegos

Post by ALLisNOISE »

So, long post, but I gots something to say.

I used to be obsessed with Legos. I collected 'em. I'd build cities and lay right in the middle and wage wars. I remember one time my mom had some friends over and they brought their son to play with me.
He ran in to my room and proceeded to devastate everything I had built. A 9 year old tornado in downtown Legoville. I screamed at him. I couldn't believe that he'd destroyed everything I'd worked so hard to create.
Needless to say, I spent a week grounded.
I'd like to think, 20 years later, that I'm not selfish, not that possessive anymore, but about an hour ago, my wife had her family over, and my young brother in law (who's just getting into guitar) stormed my music room
and descended upon my freshly setup pedalboard like a ravenous wolf. I was mortified. I felt those familiar feelings welling up inside me again.
Then I took a step back and looked at it from another angle.
I was the same. I am the same. Legos and pedals are the same.
They're both small multi colored blocks.
I had/have to convince my mom/wife that I NEED this one to complete my collection.
I've spent hours using my imagination to build and destroy entire worlds.

And goddamn...those chrome ones!!! :!!!:

But then you'd take them apart to change the order and that ONE FUCKING BRICK would get stuck, leading to a chain reaction that busts up 1/3 of yr pedalego before you know it.

me and my roommates used to label kids that would come over to our apt at parties and fuck up our shit as "your little cousin that would come over on holidays and bang on your drumset or guitar" no music ability and just made noise and put things out of wack or just plain annoy you and your parents yould just tell u to calm down theyre just having fun or your being ridiculous its only a drum set.

even worse was the cousin that would come over and insist you teach them guitar and would complain until ur mom told you "oh just teach him a song or somtehing" cause she didnt want to listen to him whine that your being mean and wont let him play with your stuff. so you had to spend the holiday teaching a kid with no music ability somthing so simple like smoke on the water and had to listen to that same riff played horribly for three hours

in my adult years i have long wanted to purchase one of those big castles or spaceships to build and relive a little piece of my childhood.

i dunno what i would do after i built it, but it would be tons of fun.

legos are the shit, and the new generation of legos is pretty crazy (sexy) cool

I've been wanting this for a long time now:

And I was that kid too, except I'd build spaceships and glue space stations to the walls using sticky tack.

Yeah I had the same type of anxieties when I was a kid because I always just played legos by myself and whenever anyone came close I would just scream NOOOOOOO
I used to be the same about my pedals and gear and stuff, but meh. My guitar is made out of metal. My pedals are made out of metal. There is a very OFF chance that anything can be destroyed/messed up anymore and if so at least now I know how to fix it

I'm also a recovering Legomaniac...

The fact you got in trouble for the predictable reaction is no less absurd than the spoilt douchebrat who not only laid hands on your stuff without permission, but metaphorically speaking....kicked over your sandcastle while he was a guest in your sandbox.

I'm usually plentiful on patience, but in your position...I probably would have lost my shit and forced him to walk over the destruction, barefoot...at Swiss army knifepoint.
At the very least, he'd have left with a shiner.

What a fun topic.

I know that feeling, but not with the same things. I was mostly fine with other kids playing with/destroying my stuff. Hell, a kid once even set one of my G.I.Joe figurines on fire with lighter fluid! I was fine with that. Nowadays I love to see people play my pedals and gear, because I want to see what they can coax out. I get annoyed when more timid players stand in front of my board and don't dare to step on the pedals. Or when they ask me questions like "what does this knob do?" Yeah, thanks, I don't know how to explain what bias means to a total noob. I only have a very small notion of the meaning of that knob, but WHY DON'T YOU TRY IT DAMMIT?
