Trade my Korean Epiphone Les Paul Custom for a Candy Apple Red Mexican P Bass.
The Epi was cool but I have a good acoustic tuned in standard and I'm a tele guy when it comes to electric guitars (tele is tuned down a step and a half).
I haven't had a whole lot of time to mess with the mexi P but from what little I've heard, it has a lot of potential. Pickups seem kinda wimpy. Needs new strings,...and I hate white pickgaurds.
With the black pickgaurd I'm quite loving this bass. Looks way better than that white gaurd.
There was some haziness as to the origin of the new pickgaurd. No date on it,...the guy I got it from runs a classy little shop here in town that has some cool stuff and they do repair work and restoration. He seemed to think it came off his personal 70's P-Bass but couldn't really confirm it. I tossed a number out $20 and he said,...why not. So the pickgaurd may or may not be off of a 70's P-Bass. I don't care either way,...I still busted out the small sanding block and the sandpaper and widened the pickup routes in the pickgaurd to fit.
Still need to put some new strings on the bass, but been having a ton of fun playing it.
Agreed. It's got a vibe now whereas before it was just blah. As The Avon Don pointed out,...chrome knobs and your set,...but I bought some chrome knobs as that seemed to be the detail to go with,...tried them and didn't like it,...so went with the Strat style knobs that were on the bass.
Used to have six strings like a bass VI, now it has five. Since it has a tuneomatic bridge I just slapped some saddles and a new nut on and called it a day. That bridge needs some kind of fix, right now I've just filed down some new grooves for five strings so I could actually play it while I waited for project doing spare time. Goes d to a# to have comfortable tension, it's only 30" scale. Spacing now works for some fingerplaying, unlike original strings-closer-than-ants design.
Any protips, especially for that bridge? Make a custom one? Also need new pickups. I don't know what they do to stock cheap-gretsch pickups, but it's horrible. Would preferably not have to make new holes, or is that a fun project? I suppose normal five string pickups would be for lower than I need sounds, and much too wide? How about some built-in electronics? How do I bass? Who am I?
Thanks for being awesome (it's ok to laugh at my "bass" btw)

God, I can't stand Warwicks. Especially the Corvette Standard......
