I think Jimmy Page is the most guitar godest electric

Post by devideva »

Yeah, I mean he really did some of the most playable and yet interesting portfolio of musical hard rock for guitar. He uses tunings, scales and modes to make his elaborate melodies able to do live, or else they wouldn't be playable, like Rain Song.

I don't hear him as much more than the sum of his borrowings.

I'd rather listen to the people who he was influenced by.

I'm an old man now. I go by listening back, and who do I still listen to. I think it's hard to fault Led Zep for anything now. But if they hadn't existed there would be a huge gap in RNR.

I listened to Big Black's Songs about Fucking the other day, I thought it was horrible. Even worse than The Cramps.

Eh, if you had given me Songs About Fucking a couple of years ago I would have stomped it into a million pieces and hissed through my teeth in rage for a whole week, this is coming from someone of a very 2000's indie background. Now I know better and I love it.

Also, I don't really know enough about Jimmy Von Jammerson to give an opinion. Most of my tastes in music are 80's onwards with the exception of some Jazz, Prog and Kraut Rock stuff. Classic rock doesn't really do anything for me.

Well, there's no doubt that Page is a pivotal rock guitarist, but if it wasn't him, someone else would've come along to fill those shoes.
