Getting bored with my pedals, suggestions?

Post by Psyre »

I am thinking of cleaning out my board, except for my algal bloom and ab-synth as well as my RRR and elements. I am thinking if I sold everything else I would have enough for 2 of the following:

Cosmichorus
Tremeloescence
Red Panda Particle
Red Panda Context
EHX Ravish Sitar
Catalinbread Echorec

Maybe some other suggestions?

I think I'm mainly looking for new pedals to be staples in my sound.

I would suggest the particle paired with either the cosmichorus or the tremolessence. I haven't played the particle, but it looks amazing and I'm pretty sure it's highly favored in these parts. Where you're bored with pedals I think this would be a good choice because it doesn't look like it was made for "normal" delay sounds.

I LOVE my cosmichorus and I miss my tremolessence deeply. I don't know which I'd suggest because they both rock

Also, if you're bored with pedals, and kinda have what you need for guitar stuff, why not try out a synthesizer? There are a whole bunch of affordable options these days and the new Korg looks awesome!

If I had about $600 to drop on pedals, I would head over to the B/S/T and look for the following:

Cosmichorus
Xerograph DLX w/ Exp pedal
Catalinbread Echorec

Add these to the pedals you are keeping, throw in a hard-chop trem down the line and you are set. That is pretty much the lineup I'm working towards.
Good B/S/T dealings with: univalve, DannDubbleEwe, Shish, ThePastRecedes, GiAnt_ROboT, chutneyfarmer, Muse FTW, robapov, skullservant, MaxMaps, psychedelicrelic, guitarslinger21, space6oy, theshoegazer, bongoben, osbornkt

Cosmichorus is a REALLY good option, can be as subtle or wacky as you want so I highly doubt you won't find a good use for it
I have a tremolessence too which is awesome but i wouldn't call it a staple sound, at least for me

You might wanna experiment with slapback delay too, i used to hate it but now it's something I can keep on 90% of the time

The Particle is definitely super fun and does a lot of interesting stuff, it sounds pretty unique. I do get the impression it's not something everyone would get along with because most of the settings are always at least a bit on the weird side, but if that's what you want it's great.

My playing is a mix between heavy and verby and somewhat groovish (modest mouse'ish tones)

I REALLY want to try a cosmichorus but I have never bonded too much with chorus so that is a little worrisome for me. I just started watching videos on the el cap the other night and while it does sound lovely, it would probably be the only pedal I could afford after selling mine, which is sort of lame.

The Xerograph is awesome and I'm glad you turned me back onto it, definitely something I may get after I get my delay taken care of. :thumb:

Here is a struggle... Particle or DT SR?

That used Ghost Disaster in the B/S/T is pretty compelling too. I have and have had a gang of delays, and the GD is top shelf. It's just a pleasure to listen to.

I'm super hesitant to get rid of my Digilog because it's just so damn pretty and was so hard to track down but it's just not giving me quite the delay sound I'm looking for.

Also Henry Kaiser demo sold me on the particle.....

But I think the eti demo of the freeze setting and exprerssion pedal may have.

Oh god, we're the same person!
Maybe try a flanger. I love flangers and Subdecay's Starlight dlx looks delicious.

i think what helps me arrange my board is considering tones vs effects.
meaning, i have certain pedals on my board that i see more as tone shaping and others are there to really mangle my sound.
so i found a basis for my sound with overdrive, fuzz, phaser, wah, octave, and then things like the rainbow machine, dl4 and deluxe pitch pirate to get wacky. although lately i've been dialing in more subtle settings for both. and it helps even for said effects to be interchangeable, so something like my sibling phaser or BAT fnord can do either.
but the point i'm trying to make is that looking at it from this perspective has made me stay put for awhile and not flip one pedal after another because i get to a point where i don't even know what i want to hear anymore.
sorry for the rant and hopefully this makes sense and i don't sound like a pompous douche.

:omg:

Yea man, the Starlight looks sick! So pricey though...I'm sort of stuck with just spending money that I get from selling pedals and idk if I could get anywhere near that much >_<
