Orange Rockerverb Combo question

Post by Forrrest »

anyone know about this amp?

looking at a used one locally.

I noticed they now sell the amp with front controls and not the top controls like in the picture.
does that make the top controls version the MK1 that used 6v6 tubes?

seller says there's no sound from the dirty channel, but the clean works ok,
I assume it's just the dirty channel preamp tube that's shot
anyone have the tube layout for this combo? (is the combo version is different then the head??)

anything else I should look out for before taking it home?

The mki RV50 had top mounted controls like that one and was powered by 6V6s. They changed to that butt ugly front mounted cab on the mkii. Pretty sure the tube layout/guts are identical in the combo and head.

I had the head version and never really bonded with it. The clean channel was almost pointless as it had zero clean headroom but I guess it could do the "crunch" thing pretty good. Clean channel actually packs a lot of gain, felt like it overlapped with the dirt channel too much, should be more distinct with two channels imo. As for the dirty channel, honestly, it ripped pretty hard, more gain than I'd ever use but some of the settings were pretty cool and definitely crushing. Got to tight and modern sounding for my tastes though. Mine also hated pedals and the loop sucked ass. I finally let it go as a result.

It's LOUD too, just screams for 50W but mine was noisy, really noisy. I hated that.

Oh, and the reverb was ridiculous sounding. Like outer space weirdness at 9 o' clock on the dial. I hear they revised that in the mkii tho.
