best eq pedals?

Post by pigmaker »

ok, i want to pick up a super awesome eq pedal, for placing before or after my fuzzes, to do some fuzz tweakin.

i just picked up a basic audio peak freq and it does not do what i expected. but its kinda cool.

so i decided to just get a straight up eq pedal. i dont like digital stuff in general.

i immediately thought of the boss EQ (8 band?). i dont need a zillion bands.

thank u dudes  :yay:

You may want to look into a parametric EQ.
I know WMD and Empress make fancy ones.

Fuzzhugger Magic Meter has really awesome EQ capabilities as well as overdive / fuzz. I'm also a big fan of the old Maestro Parametric EQ. The Stone Dead FX PDF-1 is a modern take on the old Maestro.

If you want to go the cheap, but highly effective road - check out an old DOD 610 Graphic EQ. Acts as nice booster as well

I like going simple.

Dr. Scientist is about to release The Cleanness v2 and after owning the v1, that's what I'm going with. Vol, Gain, and powerful 3-Band EQ plus new Mix and Exp controlled Mix. Boost the shit outta fuzz pre or post, hit your amp super hard, de-gain a channel on your amp (something nobody thinks about with that pedal), tweak the EQ however you please to get both normal and crazy filter-ish effects.

Hard to beat imo unless you truly desire an 8 or 10 band behemoth. I could never settle with that many EQ options, forever tweaking away I'd be....

If you don't want a paraEQ, look for the Source Audio Programmable EQ.

This is what I thought of. There is a Cleanness for sale somewhere in TGP's classifieds.

That's what I was gonna say. Anxiously awaiting the new The Cleanness.

The empress is sweet and can work as a good boost as well

I have also owned the MXR KFK 10 band and it is very awesome
has dual outputs which I thought was pretty sweet, kindof want one to kick off my stereo chain

also has a ton of volume and was crazy durable

if you want to go super cheap I have always liked the Dano FishNChips, which also does crazy controllable pitch in a feedback loop

Before fuzz, a passive Vari-tone type pedal is pretty sweet for shaping sounds and not killing guitar interaction. I've got a THD Quintet for that which I got for almost nadda. If lost or stolen, I would DIY a new one as soon as humanly possible.

I use a Fromel Shape EQ, which is a descendent of the Maxon PQ-9. It's simple yet versatile and most importantly, effective.

Very useful is its switchable buffer/TB operation, but its best feature is the sweepable mids knob which makes it easy to find the sweetspot in amps and dirt pedals, in boost or cut mode.

The Empress ParaEQ is something I've always wanted to get ahold of, which lets you sweep a low, mid and hi band, independent of each other...while also offering Q options.
