does wiring stuff point to point on cardboard work alright? do you need a certain kind of cardboard?

It works alright. Cereal box cardboard is pretty easy to puncture and usually has colorful pictures so its kinda the most fun.

I've never used cardboard, but I can see how it would be useful. Printing a layout on some cardstock would make perf building more straightforward. If you're worried about the flexibility of the cardboard causing solder joints to fail, just be sure to make good mechanical connections with the leads before you solder them; you know, twist them together or wrap around, not just pushed against each other and held together with solder. Then the type of cardboard won't matter.

I think you should poke holes in the cardboard first. I have damaged some things trying to force them through. this is from ciat lonbarde paper circuits page
