So, I don't know much about recording stuff. But, I want to start recording stuffs. I was thinking of getting a Tascam DP-004:

I'm stupid, tend to shy away from computers, and poor. And this seems like something that would meet my criteria. I would like to do all the actual recording away from the computer, then once tracks are recorded I would dig the capability of taking those tracks to the computer to add effects/editing. If you guys have any recommendations/comments, I'd love to hear them.

Scarlet 2i2 and a free download of reaper should be all you need to produce some decent stuff. I know you said You didn't want to use the pc but the learning curve is not that steep.

I use a DP-004 and, honestly, if you're planning to mess with tracks individually in post, get an interface. The DP-004 has to export either the whole song as a wav (that takes ages to render) or each track one at a time. The files are also fuck huge, so between the cost of the unit and the memory card you'd need to do anything, an interface would be cheaper overall.

i decided on twisted wave finally
cause im not the smartest
when it comes to technology stuff
its pretty easy to use
like right out the box recording and trimming
and exporting is so simple
im in the market for an ipad interface myself

Cool, cool, cool. All good input. Does anybody mess around with Fruity Loops, or is that stuff gone the way of KaZaa?

Most people buy those portable units for field use, so festivals and stuff. Not really home recording.
