Amp upgrade questions

Post by crayola64 »

Hey, I'm currently running my fender jag through a vox ac4tv8 combo and I really like the tone and it contains enough volume for my current playing situation. I'd like to add more chime/sparkle to my cleans without replacing the amp. I'm thinking about either a tube upgrade, speaker change, or getting a cab for it. Is there any method that would be more effective (cost or tone wise) than the others? I understand it's subjective but I'd like to hear your opinions

A clean boost? adding a cab might make it sound bigger and add depth.

Yeah I've also been looking into clean boosts/compressors. I'm hoping the Durham sex drive will help. The slight fuzz from my clarinot clone does the trick pretty well so maybe I should just look into having someone make me a pedal based On that part of the circuit

another (much cheaper) thought is maybe change out the tone pot and cap in the guitar? What are the values in those jags?

They'd be whatever comes stock. I don't really trust myself with messing with a soldering iron at this point. Id prefer not to mess with my guitar yet. Treble booster seems like a good idea as long it wont just give me the treble heavy growl with little clarity I get from full treble tone, bridge pickup, and bass cut on

Sparkle motion gives me a nice chime, especially with a clean boost.

Unless he's using some sort of stupid lame jag they'll be 1M pots which are good and bright. I'd recommend a clean or treble boost, although a cab might be good too just different.

the ss/bs sparklemotion would be a good range master clone to try out, a lot of control and flexibility. pretty sure there's one in the B/S/T right now, but theyre not even that expensive new, get bri bri to whip you up a sweet custom one
