well. my favorite all-cassette label right now would have to be Black & Purple, based in Eugene OR. it is a noise label w/ a wide scope-drone, ambient, harsh noise, post-industrial et cetera- with DIY packaging & that puts out quality releases and ships them on time when you buy them. kind of under-the-radar becuz he doesn't have a website and just recently started a myspace, but i think if i started a small DIY label that would be how i ran it.

Re: Cassettes/Cassette Labels
I'm digging all these labels. I need to find an old walkman or something so I can order and listen to some of these tapes.
Your Forms album is awesome, btw.

Do you like listening to homemade music? Me too. Why don't you try one of mine?

Re: Cassettes/Cassette Labels
i like this one
paradise vendors with pics of cool looking older releases on their myspace
and i guess vicious pop might not count because they are more professionalish, but it is definitely a label run out of one dude's apartment.
and if that is borderline, then this is probably right out, but i think retard disco is worth a mention

I'm only 21 :/
Apparently you have to have grown up poor and lived in a trailer 15 years back to still appreciate and use cassettes without doing it to seem "Indie" and "vintage" or some stupid bullshit? I dunno, haha.
Tape labels (as in record labels specializing in cassettes) are all over the place! Much cheaper than pro CD's and such... Tape labels are a Noise "artist's" best friend!

i think it's strange that noise culture has such affinity for tapes. it seems like in drones and harsh noise, all you have are the characteristics of the sound, much of the subtlety of which is lost on cassettes.
don't get me wrong, i love me some noise cassettes, and i have a few gems, but its just an interesting pairing.

Re: Cassettes/Cassette Labels
Haha, this is true about "delicate" sounds potentially being lost with tape (though regular old cassette tape technology can lend a particular "special" quality to audio if it's recorded properly--to where the sound is not over-powered by the tape's natural hiss, and if it's mastered loud enough, these problems are usually very minor).
I think it's really depends on where you're looking... It seems like "dark ambient" and "drone" (in this day and age--since CD-r's have become "the norm" back in the late 90's) is typically released on vinyl or CD moreso than than cassette, but there are still MANY releases on tape, esp. when it comes to labels that try to maintain some kind of "PAWNK" DIY ethos (particularly with labels that specialize in Harsh Noise, Noisecore, Grind, etc. releases). It seems that a lot of EU labels in areas such as Russia still do tapes simply because it's cheaper.
It's really cool when I get actual offers to release material without (my own) solicitation, which is what's so great about the sheer number of "DIY" noise labels specializing in just about every format from net-releases, tapes, cd-r's, records, lathe cuts, and fucking FLOPPY DISKS.
