The Brian Jonestown Massacre

Post by Led Dirigible »

Any fans out there? Massively underrated band, in my opinion, and definitely one of my favorites!

I always liked them, even though Anton seemed to self destruct every other week or so.

Of course that may be part of the attraction.

Are any of the original members still with him? The list of former members must be as long as or longer than the discography.

Anton is insane. He's also a genius, but, whatever. :idk:
If you've ever seen DiG!, it's basically a movie about them over about 6 years. Really shows how crazy he is.
I'm pretty sure all the original members except him are gone (It shows, too, the newest album was pretty awful) but I think they reunited earlier this year to play a few shows.

I’ve seen ‘Dig’ it’s kind of a band nightmare. A what not to do from A to Z.

Like I said Anton’s insanity is a lot of the appeal.

I never thought about it that way, but that's true

Yeah, I think the insanity thing is true as well. Good band, good music. That's all that really matters. :)

You really should, it's a cool movie.

It'll also make you hate The Dandy Warhols. :grumpy:

Are you serious? That movie made me get really into the dandy's old stuff! I mean, you can't really hate on the Dandy's, Anton was fucking out of his mind and did a whole lot of stupid shit first, being the instigator, every single time they fought.

But i don't care. Both bands are incredible.

My roomate just got a Dandy Warhols single, on a square picture disc, it's a song called Ride, and it's easily one of their best.

Not to mention Servo has my favourite guitar riff ever in it.

Fucking great bands.

OH! My roomates girlfriend bought some BJM test press 7" from a record stop for 25$ the other day. Fucking so jealous.

AND!

Matt Hollywood and Joel both went on the latest BJM tour with them, i was in london but all my friends said it was fucking amazing :grumpy:

I've never really listened to The Dandys to be honest, Courtney just comes off like a douche. :idk:

The first gig I ever played we covered Servo! 'Twas epic :D

If I wanted to get into The Dandy Warhols, where should I start?

Courtnyey does seem like a douche, but besides that I really don't care for their music. :idk:

I agree. That movie just got me more into them in general.

It also convinced me that I would probably kill myself if I was ever in a band like TBJM. Good music, horrible people.

Most hXc fans would probably disagree with starting here, but I really like Welcome to the Monkey House.

I like Dandy's better but they're both amazing. DW's just have a much more solid discography. IMO 3/4s or TBJM's music is crap, but when they're good, they're sooo good.

I wouldn't say 3/4ths, but they do have some bad stuff. It's not really surprising, most bands with their kind of problems would have been allbad.
