I still have the Bass Overdrive ODB-B. I love the low end, crunch & the mix knob. Like the EQ but really wish there was a way to deal with the cheap sizzle in the top end as you turn up the gain. Any known alternatives?

I was thinking about possibly trying out a ps-3 (not the video game console) in a trade for my dd7 but I'm having too much fun looping.

I dig the Boss Pitch Shifters. The HR-2 Harmonist is my favorite so far, and I've had a PS-5. I like the weird digital-y-ness of them. So clean and fake! Sweet sweet candy plastic. Mmmmmm. I like the Harmonist best because it just does pitches and you get two voices to play with instead of only having one like you do on the PS series stuff. (I know the PS-6 does multiple voices, but they're fixed intervals and I like to be able to tweak them like I can on the HR-2.) Some of the detune and dive-bomb stuff that you can do on the PS boxes is fun though, but I didn't use that stuff much.

Actually, the PS-3 will do any pitch you want up two octaves or down two octaves. You can even do double pitch shifting, giving you three voices to play with! (one 'dry', one anything within two octaves above or below, the other also within two octaves above or below).

Not to mention the PS-3 has that sweet sweet mode 7. Which by the way sounds awesome if you set it to not pitch shift the repeats at all (set the shift at noon), and you get this weird reverse of your original pitch.

I love the boss PS-3, so much so that I have 2 on my board! Mode 7 is awesome for shimmer, but leaving all knobs at noon on mode 7 can give you an interesting reverse (or inverse?) echo effect that is pretty awesome for post rock and what not. I usually have one PS-3 set to this, and my other varies between an octave up/down mode or a quick delay, depending on what I need, or even two mode 7's. I'd say give it a try, it is quite digital and clean, but I love them.
