Anyone know about footswitches for Fender Reissues?

Post by julius_deane »

So I've got a Fender Twin Reverb Custom 15 that's lost its original footswitch, the silver vibrato/reverb type with a TRS cable. I found a few 3rd party ones online, but ended up buying a generic 2-button footswitch at a local shop. It works perfectly with the vibrato mode, but when the reverb is engaged, the amp hums very loudly. The amp doesn't hum when the reverb is on without the footswitch, but the vibrato is only usable with a footswitch.

Is this an issue with the amp or maybe a short in the switch, or is it possible that it's just not right for the amp? I'm hoping to figure this out without buying another one.

If all else fails, I'll probably just take the amp and the switch to the shop and see what they think.

Any ideas?

Chances are it's the footswitch. When in doubt, and you're dealing with two or three or more button TRS-type switches, just buy the real one unless you're patient or have a ton of free time/parts to chase phantoms.

It'll be cheaper than minimum bench fee anywhere.
