awesome bird and as for compressors if the philosophers tone didnt have blend it wouldnt have stuck around so long sounds aweome with all dirt blend is always at half for me its got a grit knob which i have turned down to 10:00 to use with everything makes the od sound just heavy as fuck and adds a bit of dynamic to the b'can it just adds smethin to everything but isnt always on also susstaaaaaaaaiiiiiiinn(+forever and a day) im not sure that its a traditional compressor but i think alot of you guys would dig it
goroth wrote:Get a comp with a clean blend in that case ... I mostly use a compressor on clean swells to max the crap out of the sustain, so I'm pretty noobish when it comes to any form of compression that doesn't have all knobs maxed.
Thanks, been eyeing the Barber Tone Press. Just say "Yes" to parallel compression.
I like compressors as an effect too. So, it'd be nice if I could find one that does both things well.
skullservant wrote:Chankz, you should watch some Madbean Afterlife demos. It's my go-to compressor because it doesn't really add gain or coloration, just an elevation of harmonics and details without being super squishy (cause I hate that shit, twss)
Thank you, sir, I'll check out some demos. (I think you're just trying to get me to watch your videos. The only demos are by you and some nerdy guy.) Maybe I'll have you build me one after you've settled back from your honeymoon.
Hahaha
The nerdy guy knows a lot about comps! He's built quite a few and I'm pretty sure he made one of his own design called the Engineers Thumb. No experience on my end with it though
He may know a lot about compressors, but he needs some lessons on how to make a good demo.
I couldn't really watch those. His mic was picking up too much room noise. Difficult to hear what was really going on. Lots of string noise and too loud footswitchings.

You ain't kidding... holy fuckballs is that thing massive
It really puts it in perspective seeing it next to everything else. DAYUM.
Yeah man. It's a beast. Other users are saying that it should be thought of more as an amp than an effect. It's certainly sized and priced that way
Grabbing one was pretty simple for me though. Tube overdrive is my main sound. I'll happily sacrifice board space if the sound is right. Early days but at low volumes its already fucking impressive. Huge bottom end and grind. I can still squeeze 8 or so pedals on beside it so I'm happy to run with it for a while.

Glad you're digging it man, I hadn't realized that I've owned/ownmost of the things on your board currently. The exception being that endangered audio delay which I still real want to check out. But the Fuzzrocious OSD is my favorite gain pedal, and the catalinbread echorec is the only digital delay I've ever truly liked.
Pretty much what I'm saying is you've got great taste.
Josh Pelican wrote:Anyone know where I can get a Stagg pedalboard? Specifically, the UPC-424.
Check ebay? I did a quick search and only found a handful of stores online in stock.
I'm assuming a dealer in Canada would be your choice?
Yeah, I just found one. It's in Maine and will cost me roughly $84 (with shipping). I only found a few on ebay.ca, so I'm assuming there's more on the US version. I finally came across one that was just listed as a pedalboard case. When I looked at the pictures I realized it was a Stagg, but it doesn't say it anywhere in the ad.
Gonna look around a bit before dropping the cash. If you find some that can be shipped to me for cheaper, let me know.

Thanks Ron. The EAD is amazing. I kind of like echo sounds more than delays. The only way to describe it is I really like hearing the repeats degrade a lot after I hit a note - like they are bouncing away. The echo and infinite sounds on the EAD are still my favourite of all time. The Echorec is seriously excellent too. I love how you can mess with the tone of repeats on it. The OSD into the EAD and then the Echorec creates big lead guitar tones on bass. I like to piss off my guitarist with that combo
My board will go through a phase of setting everything through the Meatsmoke now. I know all of these pedals play well with different amps because I'm often forced to use venue backline in gigs. It'll be great to have my core sound in my board with the Meatsmoke.
JamesHommersen wrote:Bass player here. I never turn off my Empress Compressor, sounds too good and the blend knob is very useful.
This. That pedal is so good. I'm going to own one.

I've shifted a bunch of stuff off my board to make room for the Meatsmoke. I've also got an EBS Valvedrive away for repair and two pedals that have gone missing in transit in shipping to Australia All going well, I'll add a Baby Thundaa and an Arc Green Pi to this setup. First time I've ever had issues with USPS shipping but seeing there are two missing, I'm hoping its just delays. Can't see the Valvedrive fitting on my board and it probably will be overkill now. Eventually I'll get rid of some dirt that doesn't gel as well with the Meatsmoke and maybe add a phaser.
Damn, that is an awesome selection of gear... BUT my goodness is that Verellen huge. As mentioned already, it really does put it into perspective when sided by something like the Catalinbread. Have you tried it on guitar yet?
I recently bought a Ditto Looper, so I had to rearrange things a little. I thought I'd snap a photo and post.
