Into the night

Post by metalmariachi »

Today is the anniversary of the Doors appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show.

The poppy “and now something for the kids” died in agony as the Lawrence Welk crowd watched in horror

Darkness came to American television.

“Girl we couldn’t get much higher”, thrown in the censors face.

I’ve spent the evening listening to their first album again after many years, and the music still works for me.

So take a tip from another dead poet. “Break on through to the other side”

The Doors are one of very few 'classic rock' bands I still listen to. I think many young musicians go through a classic rock phase, where you try and listen to as much as you can. The Doors stuck with me. The fact that they wrote the music around the lyrics/vocal melodies that Jim produced makes it a very interesting band.

. My memories of the music and Viet Nam are all intertwined, so I don’t listen to them that often.
The music tends to take me to a very dark place for a day or two.

On a brighter note, the whole rambling style makes me want to write and record more.

"Light my fire" was the first 45, yeh 45, i asked for as a kid. Heard it on the radio back then and really dug it, still one of my favorite tunes. Found it very haunting.
