I think I like them. I was using an Ampeg Portaflex PF115LF for a quick bit, but decided to return it. Now I got an Avatar B212 Neo, and I prefer it waaayyy more. I set it up and plugged in and it sounded super thumpy, but more clarity than usual. It was weird. Then I realized the tweeter was on. So I turned the tweeter off, but then I turned it back on because....I liked it.
Just wanted to declare on the internet that maybe tweeters aren't so bad?
I've heard some good and bad ones, I hate the one in my markbass combo but my friend's Berg sounds killer. Kind of a stacked comparison perhaps but still.
I think it has alot to do with the crossover. As in what frequencies are being sent to the tweeter. I enjoyed having a tweeter in my Ampeg BA-115. Do I miss having a tweeter or two in my 2x15? No.
I use them on both of my cabs. Usually not all the way open, I usually have the attenuator down a smidge. But I hate the sound with them completely off, there's just no bite.
