New SP album details announced

Post by ohsojayadeva »

i, for one, will be reserving judgment until i hear the tracks. it's an ambitious idea and i hope that, unlike other awesome sounding plans he's announced prematurely in the past (chicago songs, metro dvd, etc) that he sees it through to completion.

Sounds like a good theory to work off of. Hope it turns out alright. I'm not too excited though, just hope it vibes with me this time around.

Meh, never cared for the pumpkins.
You just need a passive bass, a tube amp, and a metric ton of marijuana and Sabbath worship.

Well I will support Billy and say I'm really excited to see where this takes us. He is an incredibly talented songwriter and even though not everyone likes everything he does I will give it a chance. Just because his latest work hasn't been what you had expected doesn't necessarily mean He's "lost it" he's just doin what he wants to do. BTW there was some really great stuff on the last record (thats the way my love is and bleed the orchid were really good songs).

I'm not a big fanboy I just respect the work he's done and love his guitar tones. (which are always top notch in my book)
Do miss James and D'arcy though.

Zeitgeist was a solid album. It's what it needed to be at the time - a reintroduction to "The Smashing Pumpkins"

That said I feel that the more recent stuff he's done outside of that album is better (Superchrist, the residency songs etc), which is becoming something of a trend with Corgan now, since Machina, really. Zwan is a prime example of that. Thank god decent bootlegs exist of those 2001-2002 Zwan gigs.

I'm excited for it, and I hope Billy sees it through and pulls this off. Seems quite the undertaking.
People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey... stuff.

Innovative distribution experiment: Okay cool. It'll probably work out well for him.

The chance of what is now effectively a Billy Corgan solo project to produce 44 decent tracks: Nonexistent. Let's be honest, guys, Mellon Collie was 28 tracks at the height of the group's powers and it still had filler.

This is going to suck.

Really? Can't say I agree with you on that one. Yeah the 44 tracks may be terrible but I think all of mellon collie and it's b-sides were brilliant.

Take Me down is the only track I could label as filler, just because it seems they have it in there for james, not because it fits with the vibe of the album.

And that song isn't even all that bad. It's just that if I want to listen to James Iha material I'd rather listen to Let It Come Down. Which is a great album.

devi ever wrote:... not to mention MCIS + b-sides - cover songs = 48 tracks

Plus the Machina/Machina II sessions pumped out around 36 tracks. That doesn't include alternate versions, and other songs that may still be unreleased and sitting in Billy Corgan's closet.

I swear he has written more songs than the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Beach Boys combined. He's a machine.

Also, I want to say that I hated Zeitgeist when I first listened to it. I gave it another chance not too long ago and it's a pretty solid album. My main problem is Billy's vocals. Something about them just doesn't sit write with me. I don't know if they forgot to add a bit of reverb, or too much autotune, mixed them too far out in front, tried to smooth out the rough edges too much, or if he's just getting older and can't push it like he used too. It just sounds unnatural and unpleasant to me. Other than that, the music rocks me like the real thing.
