Hey, that dude was me!

I haven't tried a Mini, but the OG Fuck is fucking incredible. Right now I'm mostly using it as a slightly broken up clean boost & stacking stuff into it, which is cool, but I kinda feel like I'm wasting its gift for high-gain coolness.

As for the Superbolt, it IS a really unique pedal. The breakup is really different from anything I've tried & it's quite responsive & stacks nicely into the Fuck. It's just not QUITE what I'm looking for going into my amp. A little too bright, perhaps? It's hard to describe. I just got a White Light to replace it on my main board, but I'll keep it, because I have a feeling it'll sound really cool into my Ampeg Superbreverb, which has a darker character than the Bassman Ten. Reading about some of the JHS business practices after I bought the pedal made me feel dirrrty too, I must admit. It's a very cool, unique dirt pedal, and if you want one, grab it.

I think the Fuck (and presumably also the Mini) is much more versatile while still retaining its own unique character. Gonna try the White Light running into it for a while, and if that doesn't work I'll probably end up with a Mini and use one on high gain & the other low. Brian is also a lovely dude to deal with & I can't recommend his work highly enough.

lawlzerssssss.

The fuck gets fuzzed out fo realz plus it can be transparent - if you are one of those guys but uhm fuck overdrive. Nah I like overdrive. Whilst layering guitar tracks, overdriven guitar makes your fuzzy sound so much more intenze.
Fuzz, reverb, delay.

Listening to that JHS demo, it sounds VERY fuzzy. Not very "Supro-y."

I've gotten sounds similar from a tweaked fuzz face. Maybe look at the dirt transmitter?

Or have one of these fine builders make you a germanium fuzz face with a pre-gain/bias/sag control, and go to town. That will give you fuzzy/ODish/Fuzzy ODish, and even that zipper stuff. Look at the Basic Audio stuff.

I have the Mini and a few Supro-aping pedals, and I don't think they're all that similar. I think the Mini and Barbershop are a closer match.

For Supro tones without the JHS baggage, look at the Greer Ghetto Stomp. It's awesome. The Wampler Tweed 57 and Skreddy Screwdriver can also get in a similar territory.

good luck!

I have a SuperBolt and a full sized FUCK. I got the SuperBolt in a trade for a Tubescreamer, so I'm not sweating the ethics (or lack thereof). I probably will make a point to deface the pedal though... hahahahaha...
The Superbolt is very bright with my setup. That said, it really does have a unique sound (from my experience) and it works with the band I'm in - but again, I too prefer the FUCK overall.
Go forth and FUCK! There's nothing like the warm crackle of a good FUCK.

Yeah, been thinking about it again.. I'd rather get anything but JHS, too much negative things I've read about that creepy company that makes me uncomfortable giving my money to..

Do tell more. Both this pedals have been on my wish list, and I've now got a Barbershop coming in, although its going to leave me wondering if the Mini is a better choice.

why not keep both?

the mini can do similar to the barbershop plus a whole more in terms of far greater gain, bass/treble controls and i think that the bias can go far more sputtery/fuzzy especially with the higher gain
i'll check later if the mini can cover the barbershop completely but i love them both and keeping them both.

it also gives you the option to use the barbershop for the crisp clean sound with gritty breakup, and the mini for everything else
Sold to: dan_abnormal (3 times), Abanoise, Kayzer, Ragged Trousers, Schlatte

Yeah, it definitely sounds like the mini has far more gain on tap, that's for sure, but I'll have a TAFM that can cover the fuzzier stuff. I can't wait to hear how the TAFM sounds with the barbershop feeding into it.

I'll give the barbershop a good run and see what I think of it, and ideally I would get a mini as well, but we shall see.

Doctor X pretty much summed it up.

I will add a few things about the Barbershop, though:

1) It's got a bright, treble-boosted quality that people either love or hate. with the right pickup/amp combo, it can be really great. With a Tele bridge? Maybe not. That said, I've dialed in a setting where I get all of my crunch from the Sag control and the Gain knob almost all the way off, which gives a nice textured boost without too much added treble.

2) My Barbershop has a certain something (presence?) that the my Mini does not, and I think it's having no EQ in the signal. It sounds less like a pedal than any of my other drive pedals (if that makes sense). That's why I kept both!

3) It might be an issue with just my Barbershop, but the switch produces an audible pop when first engaged (though not afterward, as far as I can tell). I asked Guillame about it and he said it's related to "voltage stabilization", but it can be annoying. Hope yours doesn't have this issue.
