A shop near me just got some in, so I said "what the hell, I'll go try it out." Of course, I brought some trade-bait in as well.
It was pretty much amazing straight out of the box with everything at noon. We put it through its paces, compared it to other pedals... yeah. Damn. It's a mighty fine sounding pedal.
Now to find some velcro - this is going on the board for the show tonight!

Rhode Island is neither a rhode nor an island. Discuss.
OK, I'll discuss:
Officially, the name of the state is "The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations". Providence Plantations refers to the mainlain part of the state, and there is indeed an island in the state named Rhode Island, although most people call it Aquidneck Island now to distinguish it from the state as a whole. It named after the greek island of Rhodes.
That was supposed to be a rhetorical statement, bcbc, but it was nice of you to lift that stock answer straight from Wikipedia just in case I couldn't find it.

I actually didn't. I knew all that because we had a ballot question a couple years ago about changing the state name and I remember looking into it then.
i've been wondering about this pedal. since it's release i feel like i haven't heard too much about it glad to hear it's killer, now i want another thing i cannot afford.
No no no - overdrive is not just for Rhode Islanders. Now, OVUHDRIVE... that's another story.
Yeah, as I said, I A/B'ed it in the store, and it was just amazing from the word go. To my mind, overdrives shouldn't be fizzy, they should be crunchy. Or punchy. Or... other words with unchy in them. Lunchy? Anyhow, even with everything at noon, it immediately sounded awesome. I hate words like transparent... but it was very clear, while still being nice and chunky/crunchy, and it sounded 100% like my bass, only overdriven. I tried my other OD on what had been the "best" setting, and it sounded like we'd thrown a towel over the amp. After some work, we improved that tone a little, but then it became very apparent that the distortion itself was different - fizzy (old OD) vs chunky/punchy/crunchy (Talons). I also hate the terms "amp-like" and "touch sensitive," but damnit, once again, the Talons displayed both traits in spades.
I played it last night at a gig using a borrowed backline (due to time constraints, everyone had to use the same backline), and again, it was awesome right out of the gate. I had to turn the presence knob down quite a bit because the amp they had was set for "funk attack," but that was about it. Boost the lows and mids a smidge, turn the trebs down a hair, and PRESTO - I wanted to leave it on all night. In fact, I think I did end up leaving it on for about half the set.

Nah - that would involve playing a guitar. (I keed, I keed - I just suck at guitar, and had limited time). But I spoke to the store owner, who has no reason to blow smoke up my arse (it's the kind of place where I'll just go down to talk smack about pedals for an hour or so every so often. He doesn't mince words about this sort of thing), and he confirmed that it's just as good on guitar.
