Good cheap headphones?
Probably more general listening. But sound quality at the top of the list, noise canceling a plus, and comfort even better.
I'm contemplating the Koss Portapro.

My dad got me these for christmas. They're actually pretty awesome. Im not that audiophile-y but they get really good reviews. Only $10 more than the ones you're thinking of.
Also, I know nothing about headphones, I just know they work for me.

Re: Good cheap headphones?
I tried a bunch of headphones at Best Buy when I was thinking about getting a back-up set for my m50's and remember thinking the Sennheiser HD 428 sounded decent at that price range, but the cord is pretty flimsy. $37 at Newegg right now, sometimes go below $30 on good sales. Portapros have a good rep, but personally I can't stand the feel of supra-aural headphones.

I know they look cheesy, but the JVC XX series has sounded the best out of any consumer level headphones I've tried. They're not flat at all for mixing, but they sounded great to me.

Whatever you do, don't get Sony headphones in that price range. Most uncomfortable pieces of shit I've ever used.

I have two superlux ones that do the job quite good.
Here are the links:

http://www.thomann.de/de/superlux_hd660.htm (copy of a beyerdynamic - pretty great for recording with click (drums and guitar))

Re: Good cheap headphones?
I don't know which brands they sell in the US but one thing I can say about it is that it's usually better to spend a bit more money and get some headphones with a detachable cord rather than an attached one, if they stop working it's usually the cord.
I know some Sennheiser and AKG headphones have this option.

Re: Good cheap headphones?
I'm thinking of going out on a limb and trying these Monoprice ones. Very good reviews for like $20!
And maybe some IEM ones like the Soundmagic or Brainwavz.
This way I can have good at home AND mobile headphones. The search continues.
