Orange Combo Amps
While I don't have the money currently, I'm looking to save up for a new amp.
Right now I'm playing through a fender concert reverb which isn't bad but it's also big and heavy as shit.
Been checking out some demos of the new orange th30.
Not really into any of the tiny terror models
But basically my main question is,
does anyone have experience with the newer models and do they live up to the older ones?
The AD140 I played out of years ago sounded incredible but I believe they don't make that anymore.

Re: Orange Combo Amps
Can I ask why you want a combo?
I assume you're going this way to avoid the "big and heavy as shit" aspect, but couldn't you just purchase, say, a 1x12" and free yourself up for a whole lot more options--like, say, a used AD140?

Yeh, not a terrible idea.
Its also partially the band I'm in and our limited means of transporting equipment
But I also like the aspect of getting bigger sounds from something small and simple.

Re: Orange Combo Amps
I'd def get a head/cab instead of a combo. The Orange combos are esp heavy and awkward to lug.
The new Orange stuff def strays from the old in terms of sonics and build quality, even the reissues, but there's still some cool stuff out there. The Thunderverbs and OR50 are pretty badass with the OR leaning closer to vintage Orange sounds. The Rockerverb if you're wanting more modern-ish high gain but it doesn't get along with pedals that great in my experience.
The Rocker 30W kics ass but I'm thinking they discontinued that one.
Tiny Terror series never interested me until I recently picked up an OR15 (more like a baby RV honestly) and that thing fucking RIPS!
Oh, and they're ALL LOUD AS FUCK, far more volume than I generally expect from the labeled wattage on those amps.

Yeh of the few I've played they were incredibly loud
Maybe I'll just eventually snag an ad140 on ebay or something and go from there

Re: Orange Combo Amps
i know a guy who has something like this
http://www.orangeamps.com/products/guit ... pix-cr12l/
except its not exactly that but it sounds so good for being a tiny little solid state, not that tiny or solid state are bad or anything.
Its all over this album (not mine btw) specifically number 6.

not really what you're looking for though. He has it just to record with

I've been wanting an OR50 for a year, especially since I've gotten out of br00tz amp gains and started with pedals. I do think that another 50 watt amp is OTT for me (even though I really really really want one). The OR15 does look like a decent compromise for more than half the price. How are the cleans?

Re: Orange Combo Amps
The cleans are fantastic with the gain way down and master way up but the headroom is borderline nonexistent. There's some great clean-ish tones for sure but the med-high gain is where it's at, four gain stages, lots of dirt.

I was rocking my Little Giant most of the weekend and didn't really have break up until 12-1 o'clock and that was about the volume of a trumpet. I did have a Tiny Terror back in the day, rolling the gain back gave a really nice and highly underrated clean tone. But an amp is an amp.

Re: Orange Combo Amps
I had a dual terror for a while (not what you're asking about, i know) I loved the tone on that thing. Awesome "clean" tone. the single knob tone control was very limiting, but it sounded great nonetheless. Also visciously loud. I could literally shake the building where I used to jam. Lost some definition at high volumes though, and even with 30 watts it suffered a bit on headroom. I saw an OR15 a while ago and I'm very tempted.
Anyway, the main reason I sold the DT was because I played through my bandmates marshall and suddenly realized that the DT wasn't giving me the full effect of the pedals I was using. Now I've got an Egnater Rebel30.
Anyway, point is, before you buy, take your pedalboard in and plug it into the amp you want, cause in my experience, the Orange Amps really want to sound like Orange Amps, not the pedals you run through them.
I've got my friends while he is out of the country. It's decent for messing around at home and not pissing off the neighbours. It's always dirty to some extent. I've got the gain down to where the sound just kicks in and it's quiet as hell, but still dirty. SOunds like a pedal trying to emulate an Orange amp. With the gain up it can drive a 412 at a pretty loud volume though.

Re: Orange Combo Amps
The Orange combo's fucking suck IMO. I tried a few out in GC and they sounded like shit. The Markbass combo's on the other hand, sounded amazing. SO yea. I'm kind of turned off by Orange right now, but I still want to try one of their heads at some point. Combo sucked though.

You ask how OR15 cleans are?

If I were considering an Orange, it would be this fella. I always though the Vox night trains and the Oranger Terrors looked so silly due to their size, I think the OR15 is a proper size.
