Do I need Both Tremolo and Vibrato Pedals?

Post by NihilistNixon »

So as i further my knowledge and skill in guitar i have slowly come to build a pedalboard. I have it all mapped out and already have one of my dream pedals (Muza FD-900), but have come to a delima: do I need both tremolo and vibrato pedals? I understand the difference but cant decide if I would ever use a tremolo pedal. What do you guys consider essential effects to have?

You won't know until you try them. My suggestion is to play both separately, both together, find how each go with your playing style. & try not to rush your decision. You never know what could change.

Just buy the Kilpatrick Audio Vibro Man that excane's got for sale. Then you'll have both and a vibrating filter too.

Sounds like a solid plan. Im thinking of the TC Electronic Shaker and the Freqbox Treminator. Both would be well worth having and will be good for experimenting with both extremes of tremolo and vibrato.

I find trem way more useful than vibrato. But I do think they are two very different effects and are in no way mutually exclusive

These will solve all your problems. Super versatile and on the cheaper side.

And the worst part about not having both is not being able to use them together. It's like they're made for each other!
If I had to pick one, it would be the vibrato. Vibrato is more like lofi spooky chorus and tremolo is good (other than obvious tremolo choppies and bounces) for adding a lot of depth to simple stuff

Tremolo is a absolute must for me no matter what instrument it is. Vibe... I like it but as a bass player I don't use it much.. but if I was to have a guitar only setup I'd have one on there...

well, if you're talking vibe pedals. like univibe phasery things, I'm not too diggy on them. But pitch vibrato is what I was referring to earlier. The terminology with those three effects gets a little fucked up :picard:

Definitely get a tremolo, the more different wave forms and options it has the better. Even if you end up not using it on songs it's still an insanely fun effect to just mess around with.

One or the other, I've thus far used a flanger for anything vibe-esque. But what You want is probably a versatile trem. :thumb:

get a tremolo, for vibrato you can use the trem (vibrato) bar, using your fingers, and bending the neck around

EQD Hummingbird has one of the nicest subtle throbs there is. And it has its batshit crazy side.
More modern trem: Zrob-diggity knows his shit. Copilot.
Allout: Dr Sci or Empress.

I have two trems on my board and am seriously considering a third. Which is ridiculous. I know this. But I don't care.

The Malekko is also super nice. That and a good spring reverb sim = gold!

Dr Scientist Tremolescence and Fuzzhugger Tremulust seems to me real end-all trems. And the Sonic Crayon Hollow Earth temolo/waveshaper ...though it is an unicorn at the moment, wasn't there another tremolo by the builder was just recently up on the BST?

Seppuku Repeater (clone of a Vox Repeat Percussion tremolo circuit) always sounded really good to me though I believe it's out of production. And the Earthquaker Hummingbird, another pedal based on the vint. Vox trem.

AND Copilot Polypus is affordable and Mr Autopilot is always open for mods if You want to go crazy. :)
