I like it a lot, if I had the time and materials to build one I would. I'd rather just get a trade for some sort of rangemaster clone or something.

Stacking seemed like an awesome idea for me but honestly it's just been a long and ardous road to make it work with a slightly broken up or120and a rat with the volume dimed and gain low. Honestly finding the right things to stack for me and getting the tone I want.

I can mimick other people tones easily, but my rat and orange just always leave me happy. I just want something that pushes my amp a little bit harder to mix with the rat. Not so much a whole different gain I think. That's possibly why I never was able to find something decent to stack with.

the NV is nice cuz u can put more bass into it so it kinda has all the basic mods one might want out of a RM clone. Also it can run on +9V instead of -9V like the original RM requires.

I don't think I could even afford an original range master, shit is probably expensive like crazy. I'll keep my eyes out for something in the mean time but I'm in no rush or anything.

I think I like my tone as it is, just the missing boost and I think I'll be fine.

Any recommendations on a clone?

Catalinbread Naga Viper (haven't tried it, but D Day says it's the shit), Smallsound/Bigsound Sparkle Motion. I have one and it's fucking awesome. It has an external bias control so you can tweak the transistor on-the-fly. Cheap too. Another one I haven't played (but would love to) is the Arc Effects Gamut. Also, Creepy Fingers Sugar Boost. They make really good pedals for Doom. There are a load more clones out there.

you can snag some sort of RM clone somewhere for cheap, just keep an eye out.

an original RM hah yea much mojo money but even clones are not that much money. Its just 1 NOS Ge Q which are like idk 5-10 bucks a piece if you want to buy a pre-measured one. So in the grand scheme its going to still run you like 100-150 for a builder to make a very nice one

i've seen DIY clones going for about 50-80, that's the range i usually look at, but if you're paying for a brand product then 100-150 is right.

I could do one on turrets for maximum jojo with precision 1/2W mil grade resistors

Range master sounds like a good idea. I was going to say Gamut too. I have one that skullservant built and that one is awesome with it's input cap switch and a switch that makes it a full range booster.

Or maybe check out the Ohnoho Blowing Up for giggles? It's a boost that simply goes much much louder than boosts usually do, sou you could probably experiment and find a setting that will fire up that Orange of yours.
Other pedals worth mentioning if you are looking for brutality in the wider Muff sounds are Ibanez OD-850 (Muff with a couple of changed up values, a Creepy Fingers take on this sounded much better to my ears than any other Muff I've ever tried), Mountainking Megalith (Makes testicles explode. This thing is just heavyness in a box. Any other pedal I've ever tried whinced and hid in the corner after I played this in their presence), Roland Bee Baa (I'm a bee-liever. I just love that pedal and it brings the heavy shit really nice, growls and has a nice gate to it) or Team Awesome Fuzz Machine (The clean blend on this can be very handy for stacking. You could preserve your Rat tone and add some TAFM cream to it by mixing it in.)

RM is not a super clean boost or anything. If you wanted a clean boost then a FET boost is where its at. They are much more linearly biased and clean where as Ge PNP stuff can be gritty and overdriven itself

Love stacking. One amp is the black forest into the badascan. Other amp is either a Rat King, or the Ram the man parts into the elements. i always seem to be able to get closer to a sound i like when i use 2 pedals.

I fucking love the ARC Gamut. But Rangemasters in general are fun to experiment with. I'm about to build another using the board I used in Phata's RM, going to use a bigger blend cap like 1uf and instead of being on a switch I'm just going to put a knob so I can go from treble to full-range. I will never NOT use a RM. They're great to have before a Muff, because you get so much clarity and added definition to your playing. You can be playing a thick heavy riff with the muff on, then click the RM before it and play fast while still being heavy

so happy right now...i worked out why both my Ritual and even my new colorsound OD clone were maxing out and were cutting out and noisy...its the fucking Crybaby Wah at the beginning of the chain!

I went through a process of elimination and it came down to the Crybaby...damn that thing. I don't use it much, but i don't like the sound of a wah every now and again.

Whats a good Wah pedal that doesn't mess with the other pedals?
