That's why the el cap exists :thumb:

And that's why they should have improve what they have instead of doing this.

Yep, I totally feel you Syl.

I had the El Cap for a while. I actually had two of them. I dug them for what they were. I kind of miss them a little bit. But I've dialed in a few tape delays on my TimeFactor that rival the El Cap :)*

i also hate when they put the power jack right above sidemounted input/output jacks... probably alone in that department but it just seems in the way.

My first thought was "Great, another large pedal with side-mounted jacks" :grumpy: :grumpy: :grumpy:

Nope. Not exactly :idk:

I never jumped on the Strymon hype.
I prefer the way the Superdelay is build... but I feel it would have been great to have a modern version of the superdelay instead of a copy of the tape mode without anything new.

And yes side mounted jack suck.

I'm not a fan of either, but this feels like Empress is late to the party wearing the wrong outfit.

i can dig it. i'm happy with my el cap and re-20, but empress makes some good stuff, and smaller is better (despite poor jack placement)

I don't think it's all bad. I almost bought a VMSD, but the thing that killed it for me is that apparently you can only use tap tempo with the tape modes, and not use the delay time knob. This at least rectifies that. It's obviously made for people that dont want to shell out an extra $200 for the full superdelay, and I'm sure it will hit that market. They really could have added some functionality to the pedal, but then they would risk people opting for this over the VMSD, when clearly the big ticket pedal is intended to be the VMSD. I would have liked to have more control over the modulation on this pedal myself. Perhaps a knob...

I agree that the sidemounted jacks on a horizontal enclosure are a bit of a fail, but that doesnt stop people from buying the Memory Lane Jr.

In the end, I think that I'm still wanting an El Cap over this, but this isnt way off mark, and if one came up used at a good price, I'd likely hit it.

Well said :)

except i have no beef with side mounted jacks, really... too used to them (also patch cables stick out a lot more than with side monted to me :idk: )

btw guys - it will be approximately 212 dollars on Prymaxe with their 15% off everything all the time... if that isn't a steal for a tape delay with these functions and quality, i don't know what is

I'm still looking for a tap tempo delay for my other band. Not sure which way to go though... El Capistan, the new Ibanez one, Supa Puss, this Empress thing is also interesting...

That's def a good price:features+sound (presumed).

Fwiw I don't have a beef with side-mounted jacks themselves. Just their use on large enclosures.
Enclosures wider than a compact Boss have an already swollen footprint...and it's the side-to-side real estate on boards [and stages] that is the toughest resource to manage...

Because top-mounted jacks allow for flush seams between boxes, there is the potential for less *wasted* space..and clean lines, which is a big  to the anal retentive or OCD mind. Assuming every enclosure has top-mounted jacks...

On the flip side... a single row, all-Boss or Ibanez/Maxon board with colors that dont clash...also very appealing. All side-mounted jacks in smaller enclosures make for curved boards and setups

There's just something extra satisfying about a well coordinated setup; both audibly and visually...

Maybe the word I'm looking for is harmony.
