Flaming Lips "Transmissions..." fuzz and gear...
hello all...i'm new here. i am wondering if anyone out there can fill me in on any info for the gear used on Transmissions From The Satellite Heart...i love the fuzzy tones on that one! i can't find much info. i heard that maybe a Boss FZ 2 may have been used?
i have a Fuzz Factory and Big Muff...
i just need as much info as possible on that recording and that era of the band...it was so fuzzy!

I think you should start off selling your Fuzz Factory and buying a Wolf Computer.

This is kind of like a MBV discussion in the way that even if you asked Wayne Coyne what the band was using, he'd probably not even remember. Unfortunately, since Wayne Coyne was basically just "playing the studio" at that point, chances are the sounds you really like from that album would need several things in a chain to get it just right. I doubt there's one fuzz-box that would nail the same kinds of tones. Wayne probably EQ'ed the shit out of every-fuckin-thing. Twice.
But if yer looking for a versatile fuzz that is similar to Flaming Lips guitar noise, I'd say a Wolf Computer would nail it. Yer Fuzz Factory should be able to get that kind of thing too, though. Personally, I've found that my Mellowtone Wolf Computer Deluxe or my Dwarfcraft Shiva can handle pretty much anything I'd need it to do. Shiva for the low end, Wolf Computer for the mid to high end (gotta admit, though. my twin reverb makes pretty much every fuzz sound trebly.)
Hope that helps.

I LOVE THAT RECORD!!

that said, I think those tones are a big out of the big muff's league. You might need to bring some serious backup to the party.

You sir, are ten shades of awesome.
You just need a passive bass, a tube amp, and a metric ton of marijuana and Sabbath worship.
