Does This Exist? Is This Possible? I Need Answers!
I suck at using delay.
I think it's a combination of I'm not that good of a guitar player and I'm not that good of a guitar player.
I play a lot of dissonant notes and don't really stay in key.
Once the notes start stacking up on the repeats they sound like a blender full of shit.
It's even worse when I play bass.
Practice you say? Learn theory? Not a chance.
I need a pedal to solve my problems and compensate for my lack of desire for self improvement.
I'd like a delay that repeated the last note or chord that was played and would repeat that note or chord until the next note or chord was played.
The basic controls would be the duration of the repeats and the length of time between repeats.
It may also be possible to do what I want with a tremolo that had a clean blend or some way of not chopping the whole signal.
Does this make sense? Am I alone in my desires?

I know the time line did something similar. There was a preset where it would only delay if you played hard enough and the repeats were near infinite. I dont remember what mode it used though.

That sounds interesting. I'm not sure I'd invest in a Timeline just for that but I'd love to here more about it.

A looper might kinda work but would require ALOT of foot tapping and wouldn't be very practical.
I do plan on getting a TC Ditto when they become available.
What I'm looking for is more: Note...repeat...repeat...repeat...repeat...New Note(first note stops repeating)...repeat...repeat...repeat...repeat
New Note(second note stops repeating)...repeat...repeat...repeat...repeat.
To give a little context, the music would be similar to the newer Earth stuff but it would only be me so I need a little something to
fill in the spaces between notes and help keep the time. I don't want the notes to keep stacking up on each other in the repeats.
I'd almost be using it as a metronome but with ever changing pitch.

Interesting... My first thought was to combine an EHX Supergo, which has an auto-hold function for drones, with an EQD Hummingbird (my fave hard-chop trem EVAR). If you put them in a splitter/loop, you'll probably achieve the exact sound you want - the Hummingbird has a volume control, so if you made it a little quieter than your "clean" sound, and the HB would chop the drones auto-latched from the SE, it would sound just about exactly like what I imagine you're describing...
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

The sound you describe above would be best acheived with a square wave tremolo with a real hard chop, something like the Earthquaker Devices Hummingbird or Sepukku Repeater. You would just hold your notes for each note change. Every delay will get in the way - putting a delay in a bypass looper and turning off when you switch notes could be another way but depending on you delay time you can still cluster the notes and I think all that stomping at each note change would be harder than just playing in time. Using an expression pedal on the mix knob (like a timeline or time factor) is another option but again the notes will still cluster.

It's a "ducking delay". I was just about to recommend that actually.

I think the Line6 and TC both have stuff with ducking.

Ha, you beat me to the punch! I was just going to post that video. The second example does almost literally what MEC is looking for. I'll play around with my M9 today to see if I can get something similar.

Nova Delay by tc electronics on ducking Delay Setting. I played exactly this for ca. 5 years.

Does the Superego automatically hold your last note? Is that what you mean by auto-hold? Would I have to stomp each time I changed notes?
The rotary setting on the RRR does almost exactly what I'm looking to do but to get the "rotations" loud enough
I have to set the mix to the point of washing out my dry signal.
Maybe the RRR or the tremolo with a splitter/blender would be the way to go.
I just don't want to buy a bunch of stuff and then find out it won't work.

I think I may have found what I'm looking for!
I'm just not sure it's worth $299 especially considering the immediate need for a rehouse/etch job.

Does anyone have any experience with this guy?

Re: Does This Exist? Is This Possible? I Need Answers!
As for TCE stuff the Nova Repeater and the Flashback X4 have a "dynamic" delay feature that is a ducking delay. The Repeater can be had sub-$100 used and are worth every penny. I love it more the more I use it. It's not perfect but it's so user-friendly and versatile, I can't complain.
Also the Red Panda Particle...LFO setting I think? if you set it right can hold the note and repeat until you play a new note, which it then holds and repeats. No additional taps necessary.
