Been using a Jazzmaster and a SS/BS Fuck OD recently for these sorta sounds. Jangly trebly earbleeding fun :)

If you can find one, I love the Melx2 Fuzz for my garage(y) tones. Also maybe a Torn's Peaker?

I second this.
Superfuzz is pretty great for a cutting fuzz.
SS/BS Mini is good if you want overdrive.
Rat isn't bad for overdrive/distortion.

To be honest just about anything seems to work for garage rock in my opinion. Just depends what level of gain you want.
