Looking for artists!

Post by Wes Mantooth »

So for my Web Design class the final project is obviously make your own website from scratch and I want to put mine to use so here's what I thought of:

What is it?
I want to form a collective of sorts of experimental musicians, specifically noise/ambient/drone musicians. This isn't a record label or anything, just a way to organize a various dope artists in one sight for people to check out and discover new sounds they dig.

What do you get?
There's no fees involved, I just want to create a site that highlights various artists that I think are dope. I think the beauty of avant-garde music like noise and drone is that there isn't a centralized movement exactly and i remains very individualized. I want to hold on to that but still use they site to bring together like-minded fans and musicians alike. You give me the info and I'll construct your page, embed your music and all that cool stuff. All i ask is that you keep me updated with new info, songs, etc.

What do I need from you?
Well I do want to make the site professional so you need to have some sort of logo or photo, a bio/description and some music pages I can link to (Soundcloud or Bandcamp are preferred). I'll try to implement some sort of blog feature as well for you to post your thoughts if you so desire. You don't have to play shows or have videos or anything but that's always a bonus. You must still be active with the project though.

So putting this site up and publishing it will take time and likely won't be done for a few months but I wanted to get the word out so I could have a few artists pages to work on while I'm constructing the site. The working title of the collective will be: Transient Dissonance
If you're interested in participating please email: michael.t.fetting@gmail.com

Questions and suggestion are always welcome! I'll be posting jpeg mockups of my work in progress on the site when I begin developing it (I've only been in the class for a month, I'm still learning!). Again feedback on anything and everything about this is greatly appreciated.

I'm unable to listen at work but if you could shoot me an email with the info it'll keep me more organized.

Also if anyone needs some basic album art I can give it a try once I get better at Photoshop. So if you feel like you're lacking something don't hesitate to ask for help.

So this is still happening, I can probably add a few more artists for the initial launch of the site. Right now I'm just looking for design inspiration and then I'll start doing some mockups of the homepage :thumb:

Thinking about changing the format of this to be more of an online sound/art gallery.

Kind of the same concept, I just want to change things up a bit to make it a bit more unique.

My plan is to feature 3-5 artists (musicians, graphic designers, painters any kind of artist really) a month. Each will get their own gallery page complete with any album art, videos and music they would like to post. I'll also do an interview with each one. Thinking of eventually doing a podcast as well. I do want the focus to be on avant-garde or extremel music, leaning towards the darker side of things. So if you're a drone, noise, ambient, experimental, doom, black metal, death metal or grindcore musician, this is for you!

So from what everyone has posted, or messaged me, I'd really like to feature you all :thumb:

So I can remain organized, please email me links to your media: transientdissonance@gmail.com

In a week or so I'll contact you about the progress of the site and start getting the interviews out to you.
