roland JD-800. $600 to $800 on ebay. killer strings. the other patches are good too. it is a digital synth but it is very special in my opinion. there are expansion cards that slide right in without opening the case. phil collins used the drums expansion here

Wait a minute, I just saw stuff about the brute, looks exactly like what I want. How much are you flipping it for? Pm me, I might be interested if the price is right! Compared to the Microkorg, how does it handle. I saw the portishead dude make sounds and it seems stellar.

I just need something compact tweakable and cool.

the JD-800 seems interesting but seems like it might be too big for me to haul to practice with my guitar kit included.

Yeah I couldn't pass it up, just gotta put some money in da bank so I can pay for it haha. I even made some space in my living room to place it once I got it, got a 2 1x12 powered PA speakers to use for it at the moment. Do people usually get dedicated keyboard amps or is a PA common place?

Either way I'm excited for my first foray into the world of synths. My band is definitely digging the idea already to go into electronics and putting the pressure on me haha.

Just Remember Mono-Synths are a whole different beast from poly-synths. the MicroKorg can do shit my voyager can't and likewise the voyager can do shit the korg can't.

In all honesty I'm probably gonna flip one of my guitars to get the new MS-20. The Moog is Delicious sounding but that aggressive Korg buzz is haunting my dreams.

Who else gonna be my voyager bros? These things are beautiful.

Hmmm when I want to increase my range I might get an extra synth for the poly. I'm thinking of using soft-synths like massive for poly rather than a hardware synth. That way way I have a good combo of sounds to choose from. Preset poly sounds, and quick tweak mono sounds. Honestly, I'm just excited to learn what the hell anyone is talking about and get some synth knowledge under my belt.

A good Bass/Keyboard Amp can also make a good Keyboard/Bass Amp... :thumb:

this thread makes me incredibly jealous. I'll have some $$$ for some synth soon. Switched On in Austin has an Akai EWI i'm tempted by even though its super dorky and I don't know how to play it.

Also thinking about the MiniBrute, Yamaha CS-10, Yamaha MS-20 mini, or whatever catches my eye.

I'm moving there in a month (probably). I want to start a dorky YMOish synth band.
