Nonetheless it's worth a shot. Though through the many demos on YouTube, I'm not sure it's what I want. Never know til I try, right?
That's true... "velcro sound" is highly subjective. I guess I was thinking that there are "dedicated" velcro fuzzes like, ahem, the Velcroar, and Devi Ever's US Fuzz. The Dirt Transmitter can do that too.
Another vote for the algal bloom. It will never leave my side...whether I'm playing stoner metal riffs, fuzzed out shorgazey open chords or tremolo picked black metal riffs. I was just playing along to Transylvanian Hunger with it, and it actually sounded perfect for that kvlt buzz.
in space, the only thing you can hear is a Twin set on full volume
from my experience, Fix'D fuzz is pretty clear depends on the settings, though... is used to have the gain on half, slight boost on and EQ on and i'd say it was articulate even with more complex chords
After spending a couple hours with my new Bloom yesterday I can confirm that it is as awesome as everyone here says. Wide range of sounds and all of them really good, I don't think it's possible to get a bad sound out of it.
PumpkinPieces wrote:Algal Bloom for sure. The more articulate devis would be the Aenima (super high gain tho), Torn's Peaker, [Truly] Beautiful Disaster has the clean blend as well. I also feel the Eau Claire Thunder could do a decent job as well. Maybe look into some of the fuzzes J Mascis uses, he seems to add all sorts of extra 2nd, 4th, 7th notes in his rhythm playing.
I felt that the aenima had too much gain for the notes in a chord to be deciphered clearly. There is a time and place for walls of fuzzy fuzz but if you are searching for clarity I initially was like algal bloom... I guess everyone had that idea because that thing gets fuzzzzzzzy but super articulate. It can be made less Velcro-y and more classic fuzz like with some twists of the knobs. The huger/great wall is like a pissed off version of the algal bloom, still retaining clarity and articulation. I would also recommend something from the muff family - maybe BAT pharaoh or maybe a musket or maybe hoof from EQD. Don't be afraid to try a bunch because you could always flip it for another option!!
That too, the TAFM fuzz isn't that articulate by itself but the blend works nicely on guitar for adding some note definition IMO. Of course if you hate clean blends it's not for you.
