Arc Flash - too rad for human ears?
Yo dudes,
Got an Arc Flash and I love it. Don't ever move the knobs cos I've found The Setting.
BUT, I could be going crazy here, I swear that it sounds different sometimes. Is there some temperature sensitive germanium in there or am I going nuts? It's not an extreme difference but... ??
ps. Arc Flash. Everyone should own like one. Or more.

It's not temperature sensitive.
It could be mood/listening angle/you're going crazy.
If it is definitely getting funky, email me and we'll talk about a tune-up.

Nah, it's not getting funky, I don't think.
Might be going nuts. Totally renaming this thread too. Thanks Tom.

I love my Arc Flash Oscillator to bits! Yes, everyone should own one. The oscillation is the most useable but also the most crazy that I've ever had in a pedal, and I've recently discovered a great sound by switching to the lower gain mode then diming the Gain pot - in the last tiny bit of rotation of it the character of the sound seems to completely change and gives you this huge, thick sound which has become my main fuzz tone.
It does seem to be a temperamental beast though - mine sometimes (but not always) takes half a second or so to kick in when engaged rather than doing it straight away.

That "warm up" is due to a mod to eliminate oscillation bleed-thru in the Arc Flash Oscillator.
I've since changed the wiring so there's no warm-up or bleed-thru...I'd be happy to mod it, or tell you how to mod it.

Is it much of a mod? I've got some (very) limited experience in soldering, I've swapped a few pickups etc but never worked on a pedal. The price of shipping it back to the States then back to the UK through customs both ways will probably be about the same as a new AFO...

Arrange it with Tom and I can do it for you (UK too).

glad to see the Arc Flash/AFO gettin' some love. Along with the Phantom Octave and Velcroar Oscillator, it is my favorite pedal <3

If you've soldered pickups, you'd be alright. Depending on which version you have (email me a pic of the inside if you want!), it's likely as easy as moving three wires on the main footswitch. Email for details!

And yeah, Scruff could do it if you don't feel comfortable, but it's a pretty easy mod. I can send picture instructions!

It's a great pedal on its own, but I HIGHLY suggest getting it with the oscillation. It's a different animal than the Absynth or even the Arc Flash, In certain settings, it's possible to get it to "tremo-filter-glitch".

But really, the Velcroar Oscillator is grossly underappreciated. Ask MLC...
