Guys like you and me  that understand electronics get the MPC but for someone that thinks it's a "Drum Machine" and goes on yt to check out vids might as well just drink shampoo and take a nap...

Myrrh, can't you go to a GC or some Pawn Shops and listen to this stuff live??? Don't worry about the presets cause they change over time (trance) but listen to the individual hits and judge for yourself... If you have a mixer and some pedals you can make it sound however you want...

We had a good time with the dr-880 for awhile, it was ridiculously easy to modify the pre-existing beats into something interesting complete with fills etc but that fucking thing does not have enough memory for long term use. And when you run out, you run out. You either back it up and start over or start deleting shit.

How is it possible, when memory is so cheap, does a drum machine run out of memory these days? It's a $450 drum machine! Now! New! Okay, now I am all fucking pissed about it again. Grrrrrrrrrrr

Delptronics LDB-1 looks like a good analog option if you don't need to be able to tweak the sounds.

Or maybe an MFB 503 or 522 for a little more dough.

I will go and try out some stuff this weekend.

But Im a bit on the fence with the whole sampler thing, it really opens up a whole new world where I have to do aestethic choices for every sound. Instead of using a old thing that sounds good no matter what.

Is it possible to make a sampler footswitchable? For start/stop?

Dr. Sherman Sticks M.D. wrote:electribe es1 is a good option and can be had for pretty cheap. load your own samples, kinda lofi sampler, 64 step sequencer, stupid easy to use.
the er1 is also another one if u want something w/ a synth engine instead for rolling your own sounds

if your gunna go preset rhythms, my favorite is the siel mdp40 or sometimes its branded as suzuki or even something else i cant remember at the moment.
dope dope rhtyhms with breaks/fill-ins/alternate patterns for each style.
the disco beat is a dead ringer for billie jean
its awesome, super fun and lofi analog drums.

Electribes go for stupidly cheap these days. I wouldn't bother with the 606, sounds cool but really not worth the hassle. You could always find decent samples of it on the internet anyway.

SR-16s can sound not "fake real drum" too ya know. there's hundreds of sounds in there. You're just going to have to bite the bullet and learn how to use gear :P The one thing I've found is there's no Awesome drums in a box preset out there. you have to work for it.

Samplers are a whole nother world... If the Drum Machine or Sampler has MIDI it can be programed to start and stop with a foot switch... :thumb: You really should go out and listen to some and see what kind of stuff you would like... Leave the Electribes alone... Roland FTW!!!

OH IT'S ON!!!

I've owned about every Groovebox there is and the Korgs excel at strictly Electronic Music but the Rolands can cover more ground... If we were on another forum and making IDM I'd say get a Korg for ease of use but here on ILF I think the Rolands have an edge because of the range of sounds... Almost anyone that has ever heard electronic drums since the 80's will recognize the 606-808-909 sounds that Roland created... There is a reason that people sing about 808's and Heartbreaks and not Minipops and Muffintops...

hahhahaha minipops and muffintops.....the name of my next album!!!!

yea i def dig the electribes b/c of ease of use. simple and friendly. limited yet expansive. and the price for sure doesnt hurt.
roland also makes my beloved SP's so ive got love for them too.

Ok so we have watered it down to being a sampler that we want.

SO: Sp404sx or mpc 500? Pros/Cons?

SP404SX is super easy to use, has cool effects, is a good starting point, and Madlib makes whole records with 'em... It doesn't have a screen to edit samples but if you learn how to do it by ear you'll be better off...

MPC500 has a big screen to work on, lots of tracks for sequencing, more midi capability, and betterish pads...

I think the Roland/Boss samplers are more fun to work with and I can get way more creative with 'em, I've owned the SP, 202, 303, 404, 505, 606, and a MPC 1000/2000... The MPC's are better for controlling other gear and to Bang Beats on but to me the Rolands are the Shit...
