Re: A couple random questions about pedal placement
Interesting to me that so many people like it before fuzz. Maybe I was doing it wrong, but every time I've tried that, the fuzz completely buries the phaser and I can't hear it at ALL. Except maybe a vaguely changing eq to the fuzz sound, but it was barely perceptible. I agree that it can sound really good before some overdrive (in my case, I usually throw it in the fx loop of my amp, so the phaser is before any power amp drive, when I have my amp cranked)

Re: A couple random questions about pedal placement
it may have something to do with the phaser...i was using an ancient Phase 100, so the phasing was pretty extreme even on the low settings. it was not a subtle device. if i had a smoother phaser like the TC XII i want, i'd run it at the end, maybe even after reverb.

Re: A couple random questions about pedal placement
I think EQD knows that they need their pedals to play well with others, and so the Grand Orbiter does both subtle and more extreme phasing. I'd recommend checking it out if you ever want to giving phasing another try.
By comparison, the Malekko mini-pedal Phaser made me feel all 70's inside and was great for clean guitar arpeggios into a tube amp. Pure Doobie Brothers.

i wouldn't say there are "many." the Prometheus springs immediately to mind. i'd have to go back and look at webpages to be detailed.
the difficulty i'm having is finding the right combination of fitering and features. if it's possible, i'd seriously consider buying two or three pedals and having someone Frankenstein them so i could get, say, the delicious 4-pole filter from the IE Xerograph with the step-filtering modes from the Prometheus DLX.

I'll save you the trouble of finding out: misplacing a DOD pedal only to sit on it IS in fact not comfortable so you should always remember where you placed your pedals.

Re: A couple random questions about pedal placement
it also sucks when your Phantom Ring falls off the top of the keyboard it's sitting on and dings the lacquer on your brand-new, perfectly-finished acoustic guitar. NEWS YOU CAN USE.

Re: A couple random questions about pedal placement
Phaser before dirt for me, definitely. I hate how it sounds when it's placed after gain. It turns into a swirly mess. I suppose that's good if that's what you're going for.

phasers I've tried it with - small stone, whetstone, polyphase, boss ph2, boss ph3, morley deluxe, bbe soul vibe, haven't tried it with the Mobius yet
fuzzes that I tried it with - muff, tone machine, orbit, great destroyer, devi aenima, ab-synth, I'm sure quite a few more I can't think of.
It's just always completely buried by the fuzz.
