Thoughts on GuitarPCBs? Became: recommend a delay w/mod pcb

Have you guys used any of these? Any good?

I ask because they're being liquidated on Mammoth:


(this isn't intended to be an advertisement for Mammoth at all, but I thought it might be worth sharing)

And I am thinking about the D'lay, as well as other boards. Are they easy to build? (I'm still waiting for Madbean to get the new Cave Dweller PCBs in stock... hrm..)

Thoughts? Concerns? Stories of highly-disfiguring accidents?

They're good boards, but that ain't no bargain! That's pretty much full price- for example, you can get a new fabricated Dr Phybes board direct from them for $9.95

Good to know -- and Madbeans are cheaper for similar projects. I think I'm gonna hold out for the new Cave Dweller boards, to be honest.

I don't know if I need something so big and with more features. I was planning to build a Cave Dweller into a standard enclosure to fit on my PT Nano.

Looks like Madbean just put up the new Zero Point mini, in case you're interested in modulation on top of what the Cave Dweller can do. It's one of the baby boards, so it should fit in even a 1590a if you want to go that small (I'm still scared to, personally! )

Yup. I bought a Hot Chilicon direct and dude threw in the transistors and some picks to go with it. Think I spent a whopping $8.

Ordered two Zero Point Micro boards from Madbean! I know the PDF isn't released yet, but it should be out by the time they get here.

Also ordered their Foxx Tone Machine clone board to build up, because I haven't had an octave fuzz for a long time. (My Dano French Toast broke YEARS ago.)

I haven't built any of the boards mentioned here, but I have a multiplex board on the way... or maybe in my mailbox. I didn't see it when I got home last night, but I just checked the tracking and USPS says it was delivered yesterday. I've wanted to get my hands on this board for a while.

I hope I'm not derailing this thread too much, but I figure my question may be applicable since the Zero Point is also a PT2399 delay.

In the Multiplex instructions, it suggests trying a few PT2399s because some of them can be noisy. I haven't used these ICs before. Is there really that much variation? I have to order some, so should I put much weight in this suggestion? I plan on ordering at least a couple more than I actually need right now, but can anyone chime in on how variable these actually are?

I honestly have never really swapped in and out PT2399 chips. I buy one for the build, and that's it. PT2399's with any sort of extended delay time are going to be a little noisy. I've not ever really noticed excessive noise with any PT2399 that I've bought

Thanks. At $2.50-$4 ea. I didn't want to go out and buy more than a couple extra if I don't really need to.

No problem dude. I wouldn't really worry about it. It's part of the PT2399 charm anyways!

I think if you're buying from somewhere legit, the advice to buy spares is less applicable than if you're buying them from eBay. I've never had a bad pt2399 from a good supplier. Don't necessarily buy the cheapest you can find.

Hope I'm right- I have quite a few delays to build thanks to the new Zero Points...
