I was in the car the other day with my mum. It was late at night and the radio was playing the usual Dance music. I turned it off in frustration, and my mum said she was listening to that. She asked me, how would you like it if I did that to you when you're listening to your "RAHHH" music?
Now, I'm not so full of myself that I can't accept someone comparing Dance music to good Heavy Metal, but she missed something key: the Dance and Trance music that they play at 11 o'clock at night is for boy racers, drunk half-naked sluts in discos and teenagers getting high on weak spliffs. It's uninspired, uncreative noise slapped together to form a repetitive beat.
I like dance music, I appreciate it for what it is. But this was remixes of Lady GaGa, who I quite like, the trite that has one purpose and one purpose alone: to give you little to think about. It's brainless noise with no emotion or integrity. Although Doom is arguably the same thing, there is great passion behind it. People LIVE Doom. It's a lifestyle for them, just like House music and Drum and Bass music is a lifestyle for some. That is wonderful to see.
The son of my guitar tech loves Drum and Bass. He does the same as us: join endless forums to discuss it with those similarly passionate. He takes long weekends away just to listen to it in a live environment. The guy loves it. That's what real music is. Could I tell the difference between House and the shit I was talking about? Maybe not, but I could tell the difference between a House fan and a Trance fan. You have someone who gives a fuck and someone who doesn't.

I'm the same; I really didn't want to have to leave, but I'm at the end of my tether. I have little patience left.

I was initially worried about it being hella bright with that maple board and JM pickups but it sounds super FAT and gorgeous. The Custom Shop pickups DOMINATE the Antiquity IIs I had on my old Thurston Moore sig. The Antiquity set was so thin sounding and delivered those brittle ice pick highs I loathe. These, however, are fairly mellow and thick sounding while still retaining that trademark JM jangly sound.
Finish has very light "relic", kind of a worn in feel and look, neck feels great, and the body resonates like a mutha. Weighs in at 8.5lbs so it's a beefy fucker. Excellent all around and definitely a keeper!

Awesome. Big congrats to you, Shannon. It looks stunning, and I'm glad you're happy with it.
