I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

I've thought about selling off my pedalboard and restarting a few times, but the ones on there right now are my most treasured, it's too hard
BUT WHAT IF I MISS IIIIIITTTTTTTT
I mean, I still enjoy it, but how many basses do I need, really? I need one. Tuned in BEAD.
Someone else already has first dibs anyway, lulz. I must banish these dark thoughts from my head.
Also, I've started unconsciously typing in prose like ryan summit.
I dunno, one day when I actually have some cash I'll put a Ric single coil in it to replace the humbucker and then I'll be happy.
Maybe disconnect the bridge pickup. It's not enough to be able to switch it off, IT MUST BE NON-FUNCTIONAL.

There are lots of pedals I have that I wouldn't miss, but my board is usually populated by my "absolute essentials." And I can't sell guitars. I get attached to even the shitty ones

Re: Anyone ever think about starting over?
I think about it pretty often and almost always sell pedals to buy new ones if I notice I'm not using them a lot. But over time I'm gradually building up a collection of things that I don't think I'll ever sell, either because they're awesome/somehow special or so cheap they're not really worth it. Maybe I should just sell all of that stuff anyway and buy a new amp...
Yeah, I toy with this idea a lot but I've never gone further than selling about half my board at once and I'm totally building up a collection of stuff I rarely/never use without even meaning to.

i don't have enough to start over.
scrambling pedals is essentially the same + you don't make any sells you would otherwise regret

Re: Anyone ever think about starting over?
No. It is luxury to me, that i DON'T have to start over again. There were times when i had to sell almost all. I'm not going back without force.
But i'm also not concerned/feel bad that i'm only using a minimal part of my stuff at a time. Sometimes i just Plug straight into the amp. And it feels good. But i don't See a Need to get rid of stuff just because i enjoy playing a simple setup. There are also Times when i play more complex setups. And i'm happy to have several options Handy.
And as Last thought, i don't understand this Equipment driven thought... Is less better, is Starting over a Goal? Why? I use different stuff because i think the specific Equipment Supports the Musical idea i have in mind in the best Way. Painting Black and white is nice. Adding Color may be nice too. You are fucked if you don't have the Color at hand to sculpure your idea like you have it in mind.

I'm in total agreement with univalve.
It's been a long road to get where I am in terms of gear, building my dream collection piece by piece after years of owning shit gear. I'll NEVER start over unless everything is stolen or my house burns down or some other equally tragic event.

Re: Anyone ever think about starting over?
I do agree with you guys totally, I enjoy having different things around even if I don't use them for everything, like I'll probably keep my flanger hoax because it makes amazing sounds that nothing else does but I doubt I'll ever incorporate it into a gigging pedalboard because it's hard to tweak and huge.
The reason I want to sell most of my stuff sometimes is that I really want to try other pedals NOW, and don't have enough money to buy many unless I sell stuff. If it wasn't for that I'd probably rarely sell anything.

Re: Anyone ever think about starting over?
On some level I like the concept of an essentials only board and not having anything else. But having all these different sounds available to me, even if some hardly get used, trumps that every time. The starting over thing I don't get. If there's stuff you no longer want then you dump it, if there's stuff you want, you try and get it. Why would you need to get rid of everything first? Especially now that you have that sweet sweet Moog setup.
It seems that way at times. Adding up what you spent on everything you have about really doesn't help. Then again, instead of going on a vacation abroad like almost everyone I know, I'd stay home and buy a new guitar instead. In that sense what I spent on gear over the years isn't that crazy. Gear just happens to be the one thing I spend my money on these days.bronzetalon wrote:That's the problem money isn't a issue for me but it still just seems like its too much at times.

Re: Anyone ever think about starting over?
I never have more than five good pedals that I use at any one time. I have a couple of junk pedals lying around that I've had since I was 17 that I keep for sentimental value, but other than that... The only thing I have not put up for grabs ever ever is my flashback.
Yet I still find myself switching stuff around completely and trading all the time. So purge yourself and start fresh. It'll feel like starting your Pokemon blue game over again after beating the elite four, but this time you'll choose charmander over squirtle...

I don't think I'll ever get to a point where I'd run out of shit to buy. so I doubt I'd ever want to start over. I also don't think I'll ever become financially ridiculous

Re: Anyone ever think about starting over?
i dont like keeping things around that im just not going to use, partly thats space and budget, partly just wanting to be 'efficient' and not have pedal baggage
but also "a change is a good as a rest", so if something is a bit different to others of the same type, i'll keep it and swap around every now and then for a bit of freshness and variety
i dont always know for sure, sometimes when i sell things that i am just not ever using, i feel a pang of regret .... if i keep them i know that i'm not ever going to use them ... but it feels a bit sad to see them go .....
THOSE PEDALS WERE MY BEST FRIENDS!
