That's an awesome idea.
What kind of pickups would you stick in there though?

So, do the doodz at EGC offer some kind of financing options (even if it's just like a down payment and then the balance before delivery)? Cause it just occurred to me that these are not out of my reach anymore, given the right amount of time to accrue the money.

Pretty much, down payment gets it started, and you receive it once it's done and you pay.

Here it is.

Turns out the dude that sold it used to be the only dealer for aluminum guitars in germany but business wasn't good enough so he gave up. This was the one he kept for himself out of several Bastins and EGC's that went through his hands. Serial number is 003. It is a prototype, probably.

The construction is like a Travis or an EGC in being one solid beam of aluminum that supports the whole length of the strings and both pickups. The body is made out of some synthetic material, I don't know what it is exactly, but it's warm to the touch and pretty light which is nice. It has a brass nut, probably won't do much to the sound but that is kind of nice.
The whole thing is heavy as fuck obviously and I will probably have to get used to the cold-to-the-touch-ness of the neck. It warms up after a while but at first it's kinda weird. Also the pickup selector switch gets in the way of enthusiastic strumming.

I knew I wanted it when I checked out the harmonics on the third fret. That's something I usually do to test if an instrument is well made. These sprang out loud and clear as if I was on the fifth fret. The clarity is awesome on this thing. Playing a chord and changing the bass note is so much fun on it! It compliments my Duosonic very nicely. While the Duo is an inferior instrument in terms of quality, it has a character that sets it apart from the Bastin. It's spankyness and percussive bite is something the Bastin doesn't have. The Bastin on the other hand excels at clarity and sustain. It is the nicer instrument, more musical, less percussive.
The pickups are Seymour Duncan Phat Cats. I am not totally sure if I like them. But being in a humbucker size makes them easier to swap out eventually. They are much higher output than my other guitars which makes for interesting effects when paired with my fuzzers. The Bee Baa for example reacts pretty differently to these. I have to ride the volume knob to get the Baa to do it's gated magic. Oh, the controls on this thing are awesome. Both volume and tone knobs simply WORK! More than I can say about most other guitars I've tried. This makes it easy to dial in different sounds.

So, after six hours now and having spent more on the guitar than on my car I am pretty happy. I still feel irresponsible but what the hell.I think this will be an inspiring instrument to play.
