moogerfooger modular?
I have the ring mod, filter and freq box. What inputs to outputs etc can I patch these things together to make some freaky noise. I want them to play eachother with no audio input. Is that even possible? Can I play these with a midi controller keyboard? I heard that you can do that with one of these. School me so I can make some crazy noise.

Get some patch cables and play, anything can be plugged anywhere with em just go wild.

Re: moogerfooger modular?
I just got all of the original 6 in a studio firesale.
I've got an old Behringer patchbay too.
When I get time, I'm going to wire everything up in a rack and see where it takes me.
I'll be using mine with guitar in a noise/drone based setup, but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to play them with a keyboard.
You can't use MIDI, but buy some cheapo Casio with a quarter inch out and route to the input of your Freq Box. Set the oscillator to track your playing, put the Mix all the way up and you now have a single oscillator Moog keyboard!
Route the Envelope out to the Freq in and now you have Pulse Width Modulation.
Fancy stuff...
Plug everything in to everything else and see what you like the best!

Re: moogerfooger modular?
The ring mod puts out a very usable (and extremely loud) oscillator signal from the Carrier Out. Other than that, just start plugging outs into ins!

Re: moogerfooger modular?
The FreqBox Osc Out can put out a more interesting (imo) oscillator than the ring mod carrier. I pretty much always have Osc Out (FreqBox) -> Carrier In (Ring Mod). Tune it to something good and even when it's off it still makes the Ring Mod even cooler and I've still got the option of switching it on for different sounds.

Re: moogerfooger modular?
I think you can get the filter to self oscillate pretty easily too if you turn the resonance all the way up. That would give you audio source to then patch into the others without having any initial input. You could then run that into the FreqBox and then try the audio out from the FreqBox into the audio in of the ring mod and the oscillator out of the FreqBox into the carrier in of the ring mod. Then maybe for fun you could try patching the LFO out from the ring mod to the cutoff of the filter to modulate the initial pitch coming out of the self oscillating filter. Just thinking out loud here... Have fun and report back with your findings!

I'll have to make a diagram of how I've been routing mine. I made 2 patchbays that I've been using to have multiples so I can send the oscillator and envelope outputs multiple places. It's definitely replaced everything I was using for noise before!

yes you can. ILF member "tareh" plays exactly this in our band. just moogerfoogers and some pedals.
his "pedalboard" (instrument, really) is posted here. there are even more moogers on it now.
sounds are in my signature below.
