i had an important software test today for a possible job, and i think i totally bollocked it. it was all about InDesign files with layers for different versions of the same layout, while i'm accustomed to single-layer files. i'd go shoot myself, but i have no gun and am rather too cowardly. but needless to say, i am not happy. on the other hand, you only have to get 65% right to pass...

i am SO FUCKING SICK of being unemployed, of feeling that i have no place in the world and having no money to do anything. i haven't done jack shit since i got here because park&ride + transit to the city costs fucking TEN DOLLARS. and all the museums are like $30 to get into now. i remember when i was a kid and got into all the museums for free :mope:

and all the fucking pedals i really want cost between $300 and $500. motherfucking PHOOEY

Congress/media blaming video games for the recent school violence. Didn't we deal with this shit in the 90's? It's the fucking person's fault for their violence, not the fucking TV shows and video games.

Screw studies/evidence/sense/psycology/easy access to weaponry, this is some peoples own personal opinions and views! They clearly make the point better... duh.

What really pisses me off is the response to pointing out the UK's stricter gun laws. Yes, the US is generally more pro gun so gun control laws might be difficult, but the UK laws were made after an awful mass shooting and EVERYONE WAS OK WITH THAT because everyone felt that lack of easy access to guns ISN'T NECESSARILY A BAD THING. Just because most people in the US love guns doesn't mean one can't make slightly stricter laws which might mean a potential mass murderer doesn't have access to firearms. :idk:

it's not a question of loving guns...the majority of gun owners don't love their gun any more than they love their snow shovel. constitutional questions aside, it's got a lot to do with the relatively less dense population here. there's a popular saying in rural America: "when you need help in seconds, the police are only minutes away." most Americans don't trust the government to keep them safe from crime and violence, and some of those folks arm themselves so they can protect themselves. i used to live up a rural road miles from the nearest sheriffs' substation, and it sometimes took 45 minutes or more for police to arrive.

If most Americans actually payed attention to and participated and actually informed themselves VS complaining and ignoring then maybe just maybe this would not be a problem...

true dat. thing is, there's such widespread apathy and so many hurdles to overcome to effect change that i dunno WHEN the general populace is going to step up and take their government back.

....... i'm not saying i'm any better. i vote but that's about the level of my involvement. i also feel like nothing i do makes a difference.
