No clue how midi works, and I've always avoided it because every time I wanna do something with midi it never works right.

Is it plug and play? Also, is the DMC-3 vs the 4 a big difference? What do the buttons do?

My first foray into midi also but It comes programmed however you please and it's simple to change the programming whenever you need. Matt also offers awesome customer service and constantly updates firmware. Mine can now control my Timeline and Mobius when I get around to loading the new firmware.

I have the 4 button, super powerful controller, beyond simple to operate/program in a 1590BB enclosure. Nothing else even close to that size sporting the same functionality. One button always cycles through the different modes, the other 3 buttons change according to mode your in. Basically works as follows:

Mode 1 (looper control, blue)

Button 1 – record / overdub

Button 2 – play / (hold for stop) stop

Button 3 – undo / redo


Mode 2 (looper FX, red)

Button 1 – half speed

Button 2 – reverse

Button 3 – pre / post


Mode 3 (bank / preset, green)

Button 1 – bank / preset down

Button 2 – bank / preset up

Button 3 – bypass


Mode 4 (looper level, may be disabled)

Button 1 – looper level down

Button 2 – looper level up

Button 3 – looper full up / looper full off

How does the m9 and m13 compare to the looping of the dl4? Want a dl4 for looping but if its nearly the same on an m9 I'd rather have the added functionality of the m9

You know, I think this pedal might be pretty cool for someone who already has a more complicated looper but constantly struggles with wanting loops pre or post effects... I can keep my boomerang at the end of the chain and have this little guy at the front of the chain so when i have all my boomerang loops going i can sit down, make a loop on this, and play the pedals rather than the guitar for awhile. and fade out my boomerang loops (since the fade turns off all the loops) and still have the loop on the ditto going. hm. let's hope the price is right.

and yeah, i wouldn't mind if it had like, a few more buttons or knobs. or joysticks...

They have loop pedals (physical loop not phrase sampler) that allow you to change the position of a pedal. To if you had the rang post effects, you could switch it pre effects with this button.

Check Whoismarykelly's spam. That skreddy pedal does that. But I'm pretty sure the boss LS-2 does it and I'm sure some other guys could make them. I miss my rang, and particle, and context. ((( and I would've been satisfied with that loop order switch.

Yeah the problem with that is the bypass loopers is that it's all the loops or nothing. I want to keep 3 of the loops at the end of the chain and have 1 up front for me to screw with, so unless someone comes up with something that exports one of the loops via midi on the 'rang to a box in the front of the effects, the ditto will be nice, and probably cheaper than having to go that route. I could always switch to Mobius and use that software w/ midicontrollers but again, the ditto is way more cost effective and simple.

Maybe if the Ditto had a MIDI or even CV input to control some of its "simplified" features, it'd be killer. I don't *need* all of the features of the dl4, for example. But if I could add 3 stomp switches with a MIDI foot controller to the Ditto to do what the dl4 does in looping mode, that'd be awesome.

Totally agree. I love reverse and 1/2 speed and all the fancy shit a DL4 or Timeline offer but the multiple footswitch thing is the key for me in terms of functionality. Simplified feature set or not, more stomps makes loopers easier to use, thus more effective. In my experience at least...

The ditto would be a simple drone/ambience looper, nothing more for me. Even then I'd probably hit up a $99 Headrush 2 sale that GC and MF run time to time unless the Ditto is crazy inexpensive. Headrush 2 is nice for straight looping/layering and the delays aren't bad either. I just remember getting some hiss with mine, coulda been a power issue, who knows.

Honestly I'm thinking about using my Raspberry Pi (smaller-than-an-index-card linux box) with a touchscreen off ebay and a Behringer MIDI Foot controller to be a looping box. SooperLooper was relatively useful on my laptop, and I'm a software guy so I can tweak it to my heart's content.

Edit: Actually the Peak foot controllers look more like what I'd want (actual metal stomp switches), and cheaper than the Damage Control box for the same number of stomps.

I've been hella tempted by the 2880 in the past but after adding the footswitch you're back in the $500+ range so I always passed.

Yeah, the 2880 is expensive, and the 16 Second Delay looper is hard to find..

That was my justification with the Timeline price, awesome looper plus awesome delays as opposed to pricey dedicated looper. Also, when EHX is concerned, if the pedal needs an extra footswitch to go along with it, you know it's time to buy another pedalboard because those shit's are ALWAYS gigantic board hogs! HOG included, no pun intended.

Spurned on by this thread and the howto videos I linked to, I gave looping on my Flashback another try today. I have to say that recording a silent loop of the correct length first, then overdubbing it with your chords, fixes some of the issues I had with looping on it. The seams are still there when the loop reaches the end, but not nearly as bad. And as I've mentioned before, I really want my looper for recording a chord progression and then playing over; not for atmospherics/drones like others are using it for. In any case, the Ditto might fit the bill, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess $120-150 for this guy. In which case, I'll get a used dl4 before I get a Ditto.
