Wait? Who is Burgs?

It needs to go to Jeff Berger (Excane!!) on the realz.

Builders are gonna make some interesting new toys, there's no chance we are really slimming down the urges :picard:

Got mine today, gave it a quick try out (which quickly turned into an hour-long riffage) and IT'S FUCKIN GREAT. I've gone through a couple of russian big muffs, bubble, tall font, civil war, black box, not to mention other company's takes on muffs and so on. I'm a huge fan of the muff, it's probably my favorite type of fuzz. That's not to say i'm easy to please though, there's a lot of muffs that don't jive with me. so with that said -

I just tried it with my jag through a blues deluxe (but i normally try stuff out through an old 65 princeton reverb so it's hard to compare it to the other muffs i've used). Anyway let's not waste anymore time, if you're wondering about getting it, IT SOUNDS AWESOME. BUY IT. Plenty of bass and volume on tap, and a DIP switch if you prefer to lose your mids or not. Since I was playing guitar I had the mids on (no scoop like normal muffs) and I didn't mess with the other DIP (diodes in/out, another nice addition). I also noticed the knobs' sweeps were very similar to the russian muffs' sweeps (since he does use period correct pot values). I kinda just found one setting I liked and played on it for an hour. Stacks great with the Gamut for when you want to go from low-beefmuff-growl to trebly-ear-destroying fuzz. Also sounds pretty good with my demo tape fuzz going into it, similar to an exploding amp. It likes reverb after it, AND BEFORE, which is important for me.

It sounded pretty comparable to some of the tall font muffs i've used, but as I said up there, i was using a different amp than usual so it's hard to compare, not to mention pretty much every tall font I've used sounded slightly different or had components replaced/modded. It definitely has that "vibe" going on though, and did I mention the enclosure is beautiful? because i think i'm going to try to have sex with it at some point. Also, it's smaller than the gamut! Big sound, tiny box, beautiful on the inside and outside, for less buckets of ducats than the ol' green muffs go for (or even the wren&cuff clone), what's not to love? Both this and the gamut are two of the most surprisingly impressive pedals I've bought. I knew I was getting a rangemaster clone with the gamut, and I knew I was getting a russian big muff clone with the big green pi, but both of these pedals exceeded my expectations with their versatility, musicality, and great build quality. Big props to Aaron for making such quality toanz :thumb:

Hey guys, I think this is my first post here. I've long been a reader/buyer, but I haven't joined in the fun until now. Anyway, since some of my favorite builders are represented here, and since I got in on the first wave of Big Green Pi preorders, I thought I'd finally get it together to do some posting. Here are some of my initial thoughts on the BGP.

I got mine yesterday and spent several hours with it. This is a nasty, snarly rock pedal! It's the perfect complement to my Basic Audio Tri/Ram's inherent bassy, creamy smoothness. The BGP is definitely lower gain than the Tri/Ram, but it has this wonderful rudeness that I sometimes miss when I'm playing through many other muff-style pedals.

And most importantly for me, the Pi plays very well with dirty amps. I play through a Marshall style amp run at varying levels of dirt 95% of the time, and the BGP works great with that setup. I spent a lot of time with the pedal opened up and changing the internal settings, and I would say that if I had one complaint, it would be that those incredibly useful settings are on the inside. Yes, I'm already looking forward to V.2 with two mini toggles to control the mode changes, or maybe two black slider switches would fit in better with the overall aesthetic. Until then, I might just not put the screws back in ...

About the dipswitches: in stock mode, there an a bunch of great sounds. Of course, Dan Auerbach sounds can easily be found with this setting. Changing to flat mids and dropping the gain on the BGP allowed me to get into more than passable Sabbath territory when boosting my Fargen in 70s mode. And switching to diode lift and flat mids gave me a killer, gritty boost that reminded me a lot of how I used to use my Skreddy Supa Tone. While in diode lift mode, I changed over to a clean Fender style amp and loved the BGP as an raunchy fuzz/OD.

All in all, I'm very impressed by the tone, the build quality (the enclosure is so effing cool) and the level of service provided by ARC Effects. And the price is ridiculously good given all of the above. Based on this purchase, I had to email ARC this morning to see if maybe a Gamut was in my future.
