My cousin's band (crust/DIY punk)

Post by mathias »

So my cousin's been doing the straightedge/vegan punk thing all the way through the late 80's, 90's to now, and I guess I've never really put his stuff up here. Here's his latest band that he's been in for years:
http://protestant.bandcamp.com/album/reclamation
(he plays bass)

They're pretty good for a bunch of old dudes, I think  (late 30's?)

Also they got reviewed in MRR which my cousin posted a pic of: http://instagram.com/p/T08CJuDP_Y/

I have my cousin to thank for getting me into Sovtek heads before I ever heard people talking about them online. Of course, I've long outgrew that stuff for different kinds of amps, but still. Also he taught me which kinds of guitars and basses would survive an unsupported tour where it was getting thrown around in the back of a van, and which ones wouldn't. (Protip: the guitar I had at the time was a cheap Epiphone Special, and he was right, the headstock snapped right off as soon as I played a show..)

What do you think of his stuff?

Yeah, everyone is much more musical than I am  but my cousin is really cool, he paved the way with being vegan for decades before I was so now it's not an issue when that side of my family eats somewhere and a few of us want to get vegan/vegetarian food :)

Did you meet them when they did the European tour like 3 years ago?

Didn't catch the tour man. I spent my formative years in Crust bands, and Protestant have always been an inspiration, and I'm vegan too!! :!!!:

Cool. I'll have him come find you if they ever are in Glasgow. I'm sure he'd love that! :thumb:

Edit: it might ahve been more than 3 years ago, and I just remembered they did Eastern Europe, not the UK..

Fuck yeah! Love this shit, dude!

I'll have to talk to them (and my band) about doing a split and maybe a tour. You and your brother should check out System Shit when you get a chance. Drock is the only original remember and we haven't recorded anything with the new formation, so unfortunately there's nothing with my playing on it. We're recording a split in April with a band from the UK.

The band has been around since 1988. Straight up crust with some nice grind elements. They've done a few splits, my favorite being the one with Bloody Phoenix. Oh, and two out of four members (Drock and I) are vegan.

I don't mean to take over. I just get a little worked up sometimes. :!!!:
