Sd 1 and Big Muff

Post by Jaray9 »

I just got a new Boss SD-1 to go with my Big Muff. I play a Jazzmaster into a Vox. How should I use the two together? As in settings wise or order.

Around these here parts, the stock answer is: "experiment and see which you prefer." And that's because it's the only honest answer there is.

If you want more specific suggestions, let us know the sort of sound you're looking for, and maybe someone will have an idea.

Yeah, experimentation is your best bet, but personally I really like the sound of a boosted big muff, so I would put the SD-1 first. Also get ready for some noise when you're not playing. Single coils + stacked dirt = noise city.

+1

I would start with the SD-1 set as a boost into the Muff. You can get alot of milage that way: SD-1 boosting amp alone, Muff fuzzing the amp alone and of course the SD-1 slamming the Muff and punishing the amp.

Awesome, thanks. I am sorta aiming at a "stoner rock" (as much as I hate the name) sound. I was just looking for some other inputs to see what other people are doing. Thanks

I used to have a Big Muff->Overdrive set up when I first got into fuzz, I really like the way an overdrive can add character to the Big Muff.

Yeah - that way works great as well. You can getdial back in your mids back witht he SD-1s tone control.

i've found that it's better to have the heavier fuzz before distortion/overdrive, because the OD amplifies the noise of the fuzz less than the fuzz would amplify the noise from the OD.
