Re: The Video Game thread
I've started into S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat...got it off the Steam sale earlier this year (and after having an absolute BLAST with Shadow of Chernobyl) but hadn't really done anything with it until now. I'm still in the early stages, mostly wandering around checking stuff out, hunting artifacts, etc.

Get War Z instead![]()
so, I did try War Z....literally hours before steam yanked it. Honestly some of the most frustrating gameplay moments I've had since Superman 64. Though the cash in factor is pretty obvious, and they did promise an awful lot and only delivered half of it, I don't really care about that. Strokes and folks and all that, but I'm having trouble seeing how anyone could enjoy this obviously rushed pile of unfun poop. more power to you I guess if you like it.
Man I think you're right...a few days after posting that I "snapped out of it" and quickly lost my enthusiasm for the game, then the Steam drama happened...
Both Day Z and War Z make me feel like I'm trying to salvage some fun out of a game that "could be" but fights me the entire time. War Z is mostly just easier to shoot other players in, the main goal of the game for my friends and I.
In both of 'em, the zombies are just a hindrance...the only real point is to get a gun ASAP and kill other players for their stuff since like 95% of the players will shoot you on sight anyway, 4% are new and willing to team up but will get you killed and the 1% of players that might be friendly and capable lay low or form their own groups...who then kill everyone else on sight because that's how groups work.
I'm glad I was given it as a gift

I loooooooved Chernobyl and Pripyat, never tried Clear Skies because everyone says it's totally different in a bad way...
You gotta try the Misery mod for Pripyat after you beat the game, it's ridiculous...one or two shots takes down most people, ammo and supplies have to be carefully managed, dogs actually become a threat, the stealth system works better...

I've got a copy of Misery already downloaded but not installed, along with the CoP version of Complete, Better Guns, and a weather mod I can't remember the name of offhand. I played thru SoC earlier this year with the Complete mod installed and thoroughly enjoyed what the mod did for it.
And yeah...not even interested in trying CS since everyone says it sucks.

Love the Sleepy Dogs.
Clocked Medal Of Honor yesterday, shot lots of Talibans in the head. I've never felt so American.

Gawd Sleeping dogs was so good. I'm now really getting into Far Cry 3. Just keeps getting better. Explosive arrows are absurdly fun. Current load out is bow, LMG, silenced sniper, and whatever else I feel like. Nothing I can't handle with that.

Flamethrower!
Flamethrower is AMAZING indoors and especially on that level where you're jumping between scaffolding...dudes in front of you, just light up the floor and watch it travel to them.
I also loved popping out of cover, roasting a dude and hiding again, good times indeed.
The flare gun is fun too, but you could just use fire arrows instead.

I wish the fire spread farther and lasted longer. Maybe not as much as FC2 (except exactly that much.)

Bought Max Payne 3 yesterday, beat it today. Pretty fun game, probably one of the better ones this year.

Yeah, I was really sad that the fire wasn't as terrifying as in FC2.

Chivalry is pretty awesome. Like a first-person Mount and Blade/War of the Roses, except with more gore and amazing voice work
The screams are so guttural and over-the-top manly, and there's nothing like seeing an archer being chased by 3-4 guys who are all laughing their heads off the entire time.
Fucking hilarious to have people sneaking up behind you and accidentally kill them with your spear's windup swing while fighting another person.
I was fighting a guy on a cliff by the sea, trying to keep him away long enough for me to ready a kick and fling his ass off...but just as my dude raised his leg, another enemy came rushing past us, I kicked him in the side, he collided with the first enemy and both of them flew over the edge.
Last round I saw a dude get decapitated and as his body was falling, someone came up and sent it flying with a swing of his hammer.
Shit rocks.
