Fat Tone Guitars closing

Hello and Happy New Year from Fat Tone Guitars!

After nearly 5 1/2 years in business, I'll be closing Fat Tone come March 1st. It's been a great ride--I've made a lot of friends, gained some fantastic customers and worked with many outstanding, talented musicians and builders.

However, life is a crazy ride and it's time for me to pursue new challenges.

If anyone is interested in a small guitar/pedal shop with global reach and thousands of customers, drop me a line at phil at fattoneguitars dot com.

In the meantime, all new gear is 15% off using code EVERYTHING15.

Good luck to everyone and I thank you for your friendship and business.

Phil V

I was kinda expecting that. We were in Chicago in September and my son wanted to go by the "Home Alone" house which happens to be in the same town as Fat Tone so we hit both up. Also worth noting, the "Save Ferris" water tower from Ferris Bueller's Day Off is also present in the same town. :thumb:

The store is located in this weird, outta the way industrial area and only open like 3 days a week and usually by appointment. The inventory was minimal except for the pedal selection. Amps and guitars were on the way out and the shop planned on moving exclusively to online pedal sales. Guess they changed their minds....

Either way, the owner was a super cool dude, we chatted about pedals and builders and everything gear related for almost an hour. Hope all goes well, best of luck to him!

You might be thinking of Fat Sound, not Fat Tone. I kept getting them confused myself.

Yeah, must be Fat Sound. Ordered from Fat Tone a couple times without incident.

Yeah, Fat Sound allegedly stole customer down payments, neglected to pay builders for product, sold consignment items without alerting/paying owners, etc, etc. Running some sort of Ponzi Scheme over there and it looks like shit caught up with them....

i know an amp builder who had trouble with Fat Sound months ago...IIRC it took a personal visit to extract a check from them, and my friend lives in Florida.

Yeah, Phil (the owner of Fat Tone's) is awesome, he played bass professionally for along time before he had the store, just in Chicago but apparently all over according to him. I bought his Peavey 2x15, awesome cab. It's really a bummer he's closing. Perhaps he's going back to playing.

The location was pretty bad, if he had been in the city or even in a suburb he'd probably still be around. I liked the store alot though, he'd let you do just about anything you wanted, "Oh you want to see how those five pedals sound together, okay, let me get the patch cables and one spot from the counter." So awesome.

I was looking at that same Disaster Transport like 4 days ago. I'm surprised it is still there.

Thanks guys. My shop, Fat Tone Guitars is not the same as Fat Sound Guitars. We are closing in about 6 weeks and I'm moving on to new challenges. So...grab what you can while you can. I'd like to thanks some of you guys on here - SSBS, Blackout Effectors, Dwarfcraft, EQD, Henretta, Fairfield, Caroline (I hope I'm not forgetting anyone). Your pedals are great and I wish you all the luck in the world. Also thanks to you customers who came by the shop. Everyone I met from ILF was great and thanks!

Oh man that's too bad... I've ordered a couple of things and you were always very fast (even during the holidays) and answered some questions on the phone... I hope that your future endeavors are successful and I wish you good luck...
