Help me out with my humbucker problems.

Post by Hacken »

I wanna put new pickups in my SG. I want this look, cant seem to find any pick up that would fit the bill for me, GFS Dream 180 sounds meeehhh in demos, Kent Armstrong Pafs have no demos and the legs look like they would be to short to fit in the scratch plate on the SG (original pickups have long legs and the bridge PU have to be raised really high) Dimarzio Pickups with hex poles and cover only exsist in exotic countries like Australia an US so to much hassle witch shipping customs and all that shit since i am in Sweden.
Cant find any other models with the 12 poles thru nickel cover look. Can you guys help me?

On the other hand i could get every thing i want in a humbucker from a regular Super Distortion, i just wanna be picky and pimp out the SG with nice looking pups too.

Yup, can't go wrong with Bare Knuckle Pickups imo.

I put a set of BKP Abraxas HBs in my Les Paul Custom, replacing the stock '57 Classics, and goddamn they sound astounding. They're basically a higher output Mule which is a refined PAF style bucker. I went with the "Vintage Hot" series so I could run 'em series/parallel without losing tons of output or getting that thin, tinny, anemic tone. They also have a huge assortment of covers so that's cool. Went with brushed nickel on mine, look like this:

Also, I found it cheaper and faster to just order direct. Those dudes have excellent service and will answer whatever questions you may have. Also, ignore the online price when you're designing a pickup to order. They automatically add on that 20% VAT tax but if you order outside of Europe, you won't be charged that fee at checkout.

i LOVE that Bareknuckle provide sound samples for all the pickups. if i'm ever tempted to change the PUs in my Tokai LP Standard i'll certainly think about having a set of the Peter Green PUs wound in phase with each other.

The other guitar player in my band has a pair of BKP Black Dogs that totally transformed his PRS....I'm sold.
I figure we spend all this $$$ on fuzz, probably makes sense to drop some coin on a nice set of p/ups to make everything

BKPs are tits but the OP wants a SD range pup with 12 pole pieces showing through the covers. I'm sure he can custom order one from somewhere, maybe try emailing BKP or wolfetone to see if they'd do something like that.
Good deals with: Officer Bukowski, Caesar, BriBri, Amorphous, ThePastRecedes
